Hi, hopefully someone can guide me on this.

I need to remove my ECM to have it replaced.
I removed the passenger kick panel, and I'm able to view the bottom part of it, but the rest is blocked by this square filter-looking thing and the housing it's located in.

First of all, what is this, and how do I remove it. I didn't really see where I could remove this whole thing to get at the ECM.

If anyone knows, please enlighten me.

Thanks!

There's a 10mm self-tabbing screw at the top of the bracket, holding the EEC in. Dig for it and ensure that there is not another hiding anywhere.

Once removed, be careful not to damage the retainer as it's fragile in areas.

Carefully bend, twist, and hold your tongue just right to get it free (wihout damaging anything) then remove the 10mm bolt that secures the connector to the ECU and whola!

Good Luck. :nice:

So am I supposed to leave that housing that's blocking most of the ECM in place?
At this point, I can only see the part of the ECM that connects to the wiring harness, the rest of it is blocked off by that weird thing (is it the cabin filter?) that's right below the glove box.

I don't have to remove that at all? I looks like if I don't, it would be really hard to reach the top of the bracket that holds the ECM.

Could you please elaborate?

As DontGivaRatz posted there is a 10mm self tapping srew that is holding the plastic bracket that is holding your EEC in place. I have an 87 but it should be the same. Just look up on the side by your EEC (the side next to your door) and you should see it near the top corner of the EEC. You will have to move some insulation out of the way and scratch your arm up a bit in the process but other than that one screw there is nothing else to take out, at least there was not for me.
