How to remove ford 9" axles?

How?? I have the bearing retainer removed, but the axles wont budge. I tried using the brake drum as a slide hammer, but to no avail . Is there something that I'm forgetting? Or maybe a special trick to get them to come off?

After you remove the 4 bearing retainer fasterners, all you do is use a slide hammer to pull them out. Some of them can be a BEAR after being in there for so long!

a slide hammer will give more of a impact to break them loose.I used a drum the first time then i had to buy a slide hammer

A slide hammer would definately work, but if you dont have one, a few raps on the hub with a rubber mallet will probably loosen it up, or you can use a regular hammer if you have a block of wood or something to put between the hub and the hammer...don't hit it directly withva metal hammer.
