Also is there metal inside them on teh flat part where it mounts? cause seems theres rush inside them and im hoping its from them and not the car.

Thanks for any help

You need to remove the mirror, and then and take the small screw out on the inside of the door that's holding the moulding on, and then slide the moulding back 3/4"-1" and it should come off by lifting upward on the moulding. DO NOT pry up on the molding otherwise you'll break the plastic washer that is held into place but the small rivet you’re talking about: the ones you can see by looking up inside the door.
The small screw I'm talking about is located on the side of the door as you open the door. Follow the moulding from the mirror toward the door opening as you make the turn on the edge of the door you will see a small screw that hold the molding secure to the door. Remove that screw now slide the moulding back (from the mirror toward the rear tire) once you gone 3/4"-1" of an inch toward the rear take your finger and try to lift the moulding off the car. The moulding is made so that you slip it on over the plastic washers and then slide forward to lock into place and what you’re doing is the reverse sliding the moulding to the spot in the bottom of the moulding that is big enough for you to take the moulding off.

thanks, but are u talking about the door belt molding? the thing that runs along the top of the door? cause i got that completely off, exposing the little yellow round things it slides on. Now i need to get off the "dew wipe" that little flap that sits up against the window and wipes it clean. Seems like its riveted in. I htink u decribed that in teh begining, maybe i just didnt get it. How do i get teh mirror off? start with taking that triangular piece from teh interior? do i need to remove the door panel for any of this?

Yes I was talking about the door belt moulding,I misread what you had asked. Sorry

To remove the mirror; Take the triangular cover off on the interior behind the mirror (a screw holds it into place) after you have the cover off you should see 2 nuts, remove the 2 nuts and the mirror is loose from the door.
You’ll also need to remove the door panel to take apart the connector for the remote mirrors, before you take the mirror loose the door.

I'm not sure how you take the "dew wipes" off though. I didn't remove mine when I had my car painted.

331, I have the same problem. My driver's side dew wipe is dry and cracked almost entirely away. I want to replace them real bad, but ran into the same problem you have. I'm thinking maybe a auto window shop might know how? Like a body shop or something? I was hoping someone on here would know, but it doesn't appear that way...

If were are on the same page and you are talking about the rubber portion of the molding that makes contact or seals the window from the outside, then the only thing you should have to do is remove the 3 small rivets that hold it to the door skin. Hopefully this pic will help you out a little bit. If not, I have no clue as to what you are talking about.

Sorry about the quality of the pic, I blew it up so you could see the rivets for the belt molding and dew wipes, as you call them.

Yeah, that's what we're talking about stang22, but I think the question is HOW do we get those rivets off and how do we re-install a new dew wipe? I'm unfamiliar with working on rivets.

hmm so the kit isnt like a 2 min replacment. when u pop the rivets out will u be able to put new ones in easily (like the holes wont be stretched out). Its so hard to even get a grab on teh dew wipe its so close and tight to the window. how much/where can u find a rivet gun? and NONE of this is done from the inside?

Also would u know if thered metal inside the dew wipes where teh rivets go thru? im hoping the rust flakes are coming from there. it seems they are.

Don't pop them out, drill them out. That's the proper way to take rivets out. Here is a link to a rivet gun that Sears has. $10.00 for a rivet gun and 120 rivets is not bad.

Sears Rivet Gun

The rivets are put in from the outside, just make sure the window is down when you put them in. Trust me, it is a piece of cake.
