How to remove the top dash pad in my '86 GT? What tools are required?

I have not looked at it throughly, but I wanted to get an idea of the difficulty of the job. My search only lead to threads regarding the swap from the old dash to the newer '87-93 dashes.

I'm planning to get my top dash re-covered with my door panels.

Pull the gauge cluster cover panel (3 screws underneath).
2 on each side (doors open to get to them)
2 (maybe 3) in each vent (defrost) opening and couple along the top
2 at the top of the dash blank on the pass side

Tools:

Phillips screwdriver
Phillips off-set screw driver

I think that's it. The dash pad is easy.

I think he covered it pretty well. It's easy to remove, just have to find all the screws.

Be carefull with removal, might want to remove one of the A-pillar covers along with it so you dont crack it right in the center.Just a thought.

very easy. Just remember that as you try to pull it out of place and if there is resistance odds are you forgot a screww. Once all screws are out it comes out very easily.

NP mate. btw the spray bomb vinyl die works great. Makes an old pad look new again. Just do lots of thin coats don't try to lay it on think on the first pass.

I plan to cover the dash pad with black suede (a friend of mine had it done in his '91 Camaro, looks awesome!) and then match the upper door panel with the same black suede. In addition, I plan to install Corbeau GTS II seats in suede and then have the factory rear seats re-upholstered to match. I'm still pricing things out, if things get too expensive, I will take your advise and dye the dash pad.
