Greetings everyone!

I have managed to pick up a WONDERFUL 65 GT Conv with only 32k miles on it. It hasn't had much done, was sitting in a garage for some time.

The VIN shows a special order on the paint code. How do I go about figuring out what this means??

The car is White, with a White top and blue interior. It seems as though they are original. Is that something that someone would have had to special order??

BTW, anyone know of the CASA car auction in Tucson?? That is where this one came from, would LOVE to meet with someone that has knowledge of this car (it was auctioned around 2000, won by my niece).

Thanks!

rod.

If I were you, I'd start researching the various "promotion series" cars that came out in '65. Most articles on those guys are fairly concise on which VIN codes were used to make up the cars for each promotion.

For Instance: Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the "65 Indy Pace Car Replicas" painted a shade of white other than the standard "Wimbledon"? But, on the other hand, I also thought that the "Pace Car Replicas" only came in coupe bodystyles. Must be time to fire up Google.

EDIT: Well, Google pointed to me to a page that sez I was both right and wrong - and it's right here on Stangnet's servers!
Look at this page: http://www.mustangpaceregistry.stangnet.com/custom2.html

Of course, they call it the 1964-1/2 Pace Car Registry; but the average State DMV isn't quite as finicky as the average Mustang lover.

Before anybody thinks I'm going (even more) wacky....

I don't want anybody thinking I'm trying to say "You've got a Pace Car". It just popped up in my head because you said it was a white with a "Special Order Paint Code"; and that was the only white promotional vehicle I could think of for 1965. There could be others - probably are (D@mn CRS); or your car could have been ordered in "Arctic White" or "Coldspot Refrigerator White" for all I know. For that matter, the car is 40 years old, it may have only been white for the last few of those 40 years

I'd still start Googling up "Promotional Series" for that year Stang with whatever other options you have; maybe you can find a series that includes your VIN. Unfortuantely, "Official Ford Documentation" un the 64-1/2 to 66 years is gone; you're going to have to go with enthusiast databases to find this one out!

Thanks for the input

I do a lot on the Internet, so will try some more searching. Your keywords will give me some ideas on where to search.

Does anyone know if it was common for people to special order from the factory if it was just a color combo they wanted and the dealer didn't have??

Also, is it normal for the BLUE interior to have red stitching?? I didn't look closely at another example.....
