How to reset the alarm?

I lost my keys last week and got my new opener thing in the mail. There is an aftermarket alarm on my car. When I rock the key forward and back in the ignition like I am supposeed to 8 times and I push the lock button, nothing happens? Does anyone know a trick to do this, or am I just supposed to do it a few times?

I forget the method of how to do this but I know there have been articles in the past on it. Try what you're doing again and see if it works. Bump.
