How to take doors off?

I am going to need to replace the doors on my car in due time due to a rust problem that i have been having. My questions is how the hell do u get to the bolts to losen them from the body/frame? Please dont tell me you have to take the fenders off because i dont feel like lining them up again. Is there a special tool to get in there with? thanks

You could pull the pins from the door hinges. A lot of companies sell replacement pins for your doors.

interesting...never heard of that could you give me a little more detail? like a how to maybe? do i pound them out or...sorry i dont know?

Yeah. you have to tap them out from the bottom with a hammer and drift. You should hold up the other end of the door when doing it so it will take the weight off the pins.

sweet...and im assuming you NEED to replace the pins after right?

It's usually a good idea to replace them if you are taking them out. They are pretty cheap and you can usually get them in the help section in the auto parts store. Or just go here http://secure.50resto.com/product1....nID=dYMWNeqLIv5WlsBDENSv&SID=1&Product_ID=103

Yeah, def get tha 50resto kit... that way you can eliminate any upward movement in tha new door panel caused by tha worn out hinges... good time to do that

The thing is, stock hinge pins are mushroomed into place like rivets. They must be cut in half to remove them. They are harder then hell so be ready for a fight. Best way is with a dremel or die grinder with a small cutoff wheel that will fit in there. If you don't have a suitable cutoff wheel use the smallest carbide bit you have to chew thru it.

While you have the door out, be sure to pop out the bushings and install new ones -- you can't do it with the door installed. BUY PINS AND BUSHINGS FROM FORD. They are expensive but the quality of these parts is critical if you don't want to be doing this again within the next 10 years.

New pins are hammered in from middle out -- I don't think the top one fits pointing down. After you get them in leave them alone, (they are a press fit sorta) and it will be simple enough to get them back out later. The pin is a non-wearing part so if you ever have it apart in the future you need only replace the bushings.

Will need to pull off the kickpanel in the interior ahead of the door, pull out the wiring, and find the connectors for the door. Then the wires can be pulled out.

If you give up on the pins, remove the fender liner and peek up in there. There may be enough room to get a shallow socket and ratchet on the bolts (13mm).

What kind of rust problem are you having? If you were planning on replacing the entire hinge (and by that I mean the body|hinge-pin-hinge|door) assembly, then you'd have to unbolt them all together. I've heard they are a pain to re-align though.

Although if you're just going to replace the pins and bushings, which solves the problem in most cases, then disregard what I said above. Just make sure, depending on how old your car is, that you're prepared for the task ahead of you. I had to use a 2' iron railroad spike and a large hammer to punch one of the pin halves out.

So the best way to take the door off is just to cut right through the pins.
