How to take off front steering assembly??

I have been trying for hours today trying to take off the frickin oil pan and the steering crap is in the way so how do I take it off?? I have taken out all the neccessary bolts on the steering stuff but they still wont come off. PLease help!!!

you need an idler arm puller...thats whats in the way and it wont come off any other way, you can rent on from autozoo

If I can recall correctly, one of my shop manuals mentioned raising the motor an inch or so to give you added clearance. I was able to remove it without raising the motor on a '66. Just remove the cross member support and position the crankshaft so the rear counter weights are up towards the pistons. You should be able to remove the pan by wiggling it toward the radiator and dropping it.

i think you are thinking about a pitman arm puller. i've never heard of an idler arm puller. there are just 2 bolts holding the idler arm to the framerail, remove those 2 bolts and the entire steering assembly will drop down enough to get the oil pan off.

yup. You gotta drop crossmember and then idler arm. If you take off the two bolts you don;t need a puller. First time I did that about 15 years ago I bent the SH#T out of my oil pan. LMAO those were the days.

i think you are thinking about a pitman arm puller. i've never heard of an idler arm puller. there are just 2 bolts holding the idler arm to the framerail, remove those 2 bolts and the entire steering assembly will drop down enough to get the oil pan off.

Thats exactly what I did and it worked PERFECTLY!! Thanks! I was trying to unbolt all those bolts on the steering linkage and trying to take out all those stupid pins is a PIA!!! Then I remove these two bolts and the whole thing falls down a half a foot. But the reason I needed to take the oil pan out was because I was getting bad oil pressure. I replaced the oil sender unit and it didnt do much so I decided to look at the oil pump thinking it wasnt that hard to get to but I got myselft into this. Well I replaced the oil pump with a high volume one and I also replaced that other oil filter thing that the pump is connected to. So I put everything back together and wala!! Perfect. Oil pressure is about right in the middle where it is suppose to be
