 how can i tell what gas my car needs. well i bought a 2002 mustang GT about 4 months ago. it was modded from what i can tell: shortshifter, homemade air intake, exhaust, and for sure that cars computer had been meesed with because it didnt have any rev limits to it. well the problem is i dont know if it needs regular gas or premium. because when i had a v-6 mustang i was gonna chip it, and one thing that the comp, could of done was make the car run on premium?

well, i'm not one who revs it all the time but when i have my exhaust on the v-6 that i had, it had a rev limit. i read about it online and they said the only way to remove it was by modding the cars comp. my GT doesnt have that rev limit but i dont redline it either.

how do you know it doesnt have a rev limiter if you've never redlined it?

i've hit the rev limiter in my car once at the track, and i believe it was set at just above 6000rpms

ok :)

a ford tech might be able to scan something to tell you about what your timing is set at, and then you'll be able to find out by posting that info.

the only other way would be try regular and if it pings than try the next up until it stops :)

i feel dumb asking this this but what exactly does a car do when it pings? also, performance wise, how will i be able to tell?

its kinda hard to explain if you've never experienced it before.
say you're getting on the gas hard and you hear something that sounds like rocks in a tin can coming from the engine. thats pinging or the technical term is called detonation
