How to upgrade from cable to hydraulic clutch

I've searched the forums and haven't found the info I need. I'm looking for info on what is entailed in upgrading from a cable to a hydraulic clutch. I'm not going to be doing the work myself but I've gotten a wide range of quotes from mechanics so I'm wondering how long it should take. I'm also wondering if the tranny needs to be dropped to do the work. 67 coupe with a 302, manual brakes, and T5 tranny. Any info would be appreciated.

So far I'm looking at the kit on CJ since its the cheapest and I haven't heard much debate regarding the quality of different kits. Also would be nice for input. CJ is currently $450 for the kit.

Any reason you are going hydraulic since you already have a cable instead of the z-bar? I know people have had trouble using the earlier, shorter cable, but I used the 99-04 longer cable and have no problems with headers melting them or the routing the cable. I have a warmed over 289 with a T5 and the longer cable is perfect.

A very good reason. I did the conversion from auto to manual in '05 and this is the second time that the cable has failed because of headers. I have heard split opinions on the longer cable and I just want to avoid the problem altogether. So back to the original topic. Anyone know what is involved in the upgrade so I can estimate what I should be paying a mechanic?

My 68 has a cable, and my 69 is in the middle of getting the hydraulic. Does your car have power disc brakes? The reservoir isn't that hard to mount, the worst part I thought was drilling the hole through the firewall. But I'm not finished yet either.
There were some early issues with the hydraulic set up, most have been resolved by now as far as I know. Daze cars has an offset master cylinder bracket thingy that I bought, I have high hopes that I will have no issues with the set up. Generally folks give up on the hyd. set up, and convert back to a cable. Check out the "offset master cylinder" push rod.

I am in the process of doing the same thing to my 66. I went to the local salvage yard and found a master/slave set to try. I just have to fabricate a bracket to mount the slave to the tranny housing. Also in the on-line cataloug for Mustans Plus ( I think) I found a system made by Bruse Couture's Modern Driveline. Take a look at it for ideas. The cost would be $462.00 to get it through the cataloug. $$$$$$

dazecars has the brackets needed to convert to a hydraulic clutch system, along with the instructions of which master and slave cylinders you need to get for proper operation. there are complete kits available from a number of sources, but if you go the dazecars route, you will save at least $200 on the conversion.
