How well do these motors hold up?

im going to probably buy a sn95 pretty soon and in my price range, most the cars have 100+k miles on them. obvioulst this could be a good sign saying that hold up to 100k. but how well off are the ones with 70,80 thousand miles on them?

Take a look at all the taxi cabs running around. Quite a few have over 150K miles on them

from personal experience, working on a local cab companies crown vics....when properly maintained, these motors are hitting 3-400k easily...after while though, the cab co makes them get newer ones....lol

but cabs arent exactly romped on like stangs...soooo i dunno. lol

But cab companies typically use ex-police vics....which are romped on all the time for 80-100K miles. Whenever they aren't going WOT when they are responding to a call, they are sitting and idling for hours and hours on end.

I doubt there is a car more beat-on than a NYC taxi cab...becuase like Mustnag5L5 said...they are 95% of the time ex-police cruisers for the 1st 80,000 miles

every cab i've ever been in has a crazy-ass driver. i think it's beat just as much, if not more, than the average GT. plus they idle for long periods of time, which isn't good and accounts for alot of wear that doesn't show in the mileage.

I like how this thread became about taxi cabs and police cruisers. There should be a college course on "thread evolution."

Also, a totally random thought, I've posted about two hundred times on this site...but my counter only goes up one time evert 3-6 posts.

In answer to the original question - if it's been well maintained, then you should be ok. Budget for the surprise repairs though.

actualy it was right on topic, the crown vic is a 4.6 (same motor)

My comment was not meant to be mean, and you were totally on topic (I'm aware that it's the same motor). It was just a lighthearted reflection on how threads go. It's been a long day at work and I'm in a good mood...sometimes I ramble.

The local county that my dealership has a fleet contract with sells there 4.6 police crown vics around 120k miles. I would say about only 10 percent of them have some type of engine problem before it comes time to get rid of them.

When it comes to normal customers vehicles its around the 140k mile range that they start to use oil and the compression starts to go down.
