How would this perform?

Ok, so I was talking to this guy in my neighborhood about my car when he made a suggestion. He, by the way, is a mustang guy as well only he is running a supercharged 306. Anyway, he said he started with the 4 banger and moved up. He said he has the tools and parts needed to turbo my car, only not with the 2.3t swap. His suggestion was to use a turbo he had from a dodge cummins, custom fabricate a header and downpipe, put in the forged pistons and put the larger throttle body on. It sounds like it would work just fine, but does anyone know what the performance would be like? I would assume I still need to change out the computer. Anyway, all this turbo stuff is still new to me so I just was wondering how good of an idea this was? Any thoughts?

In my opinion, that idea doesn't really sound like a very good one. It would be much more work than a regular turbo swap. Think about it, in order for you to make this set-up work, you will still need to swap in a different computer, VAM, and bigger more powerful injectors, not to mention the forged pistons. After you have got all that done, normally all you would need is the turbocharger itself, a sunny day and a heavy foot. :nice:

Now, if you wanted to run this cummins set-up then you will need to do all of the above, but now you are also talking about swapping on a new throttle body, custom fabricating a header and a down-pipe. Now, I don't know too much about custom fabrication, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary things to go wrong to me.

im putting a cummings take off hy35 on my 2.3T...it will work, what is the model number of the one he is talkin about?

As far as the rest of the motor, if he is going to help you, awesome. But the easiest way is just to find a used turbo short block with factory forged internals.
Good luck, youlll make great power all things working together.
