How would you install a T5 5.0?

Hi guys, well this will be my first time installing a T5 5.0 engine. Anyways, i removed it by dropping the transmission/bell housing then hoisting out the engine. I remember it being VERY difficult removing the bolts. I had to have a ton of extensions and it wasn't the easiest to say the least. I figure i have a few methods of installing it all back into the car.

1. Install engine/t5/bell housing all together on the hoist and then install into the car.

2. Install the engine seperate, and hoist the t5/bell housing up and install underneath the car.

3. Install the engine and bell housing and lower into car, hoist t5 up under the car and connect.

Which would be the easiest/best way? I would think #1 would be, but i think it might be a challenge installing it all together(but i could be wrong ha). Anyways, just looking for some imput. Thanks!

hey man, sorry to hear all that............
i suggest parting it out.....you can get at least 1000-1500 in parts, interior and engine, and buy a fox or another decent running car with pip and good mpg, to get u back on your feet......

WTF? Are we even looking at the same thread?

I'd say bolt in the motor first with the bellhousing, clutch, and clutch fork all on there, and then put the tranny in from underneath. Installing a T-5, by itself, is way simple. Trying to maneuver in the whole tranny and motor assembly would be more of a PITA than it's worth, and trying to line the motor up with a stationary tranny would be a serious headache. Once the motor's in place, all you gotta do is lay on your back under the car, hold the T-5 up on your hands and knees, and wiggle that puppy forward into place. Holding it up with your hands and knees gives you leverage to turn the thing slightly this way or that to help get the splines of the input shaft to line up with the clutch.

DO NOT allow the tranny to hang from the input shaft once you've got it plugged in! :nono: Easy way to bend the input shaft and/or mess up other things. As soon as you wiggle that sucker into position, you can easily hold it up there in place by its tail-end with one hand while moving a jack underneath it. Jack it up to hold it there in place while you LOOSELY bolt up your tranny crossmember, THEN put in your tranny-to-bellhousing bolts, snug it all down, and you're set. :nice:

Ha what!??

Thanks for the info Dark. That is exactly the same way(only reverse the steps) as i took the engine/trans/bell out of the car. Thanks!

You said you took the tranny and bellhousing down when you took everything out, and then the engine. But I suggest the same of installing the clutch and bellhousing on the engine first, installing it, then installing the tranny.

I had an easy time getting it all in at once, If you have a wide open engine compartment, it shouldn't be a problem... Make sure you put the motor mounts on the correct sides, and I'd change them if they're stock...

I did it with the trans and engine bolted together. All you need to do is make sure the car is jacked up on jackstands high enough for the tailshaft to clear the ground when you put the combo back in. That way you don't have to wrestle with stabbing the trans back in and getting it lined up to bolt up.

I have done it every way. All of them have there pro's and cons. If the engine and tranny are out together then put them together on the ground and lift them in at the same time. I usally just have to change tranny so I leave the bellhousing on and just pull the four bolts and remove the tranny.

I've always done it with the motor and tranny bolted together. I tried them seprately once and I'll never do that again. To me, putting it in and taking it out all together is by far the easiest way.

you did a lot of crap u didnt need to do. all you had to do was undo the driveline, wiring harnesses and motor mount bolts. mch easier this way. here is a pic from right after i pulled my engine when it was 100 percent stock. i even left the radiator fan on
