89 Mustang 302, less than 50 miles on engine. I have several bugs to fix before running at optimum. (lagging poorly) 4 codes I can think of autozone has pulled. stock gears, stock exhaust, engine is completely stock. bad 02 sensor, speed idle control and others. This is my second mustang. My first was a 93 Cobra w/ reman tranny, msd coil, B&M short throw, X-pipe exhaust 3.73:1 gears, and more I can't think of right now. The 93 by far hooked better than this 89. I can easily scratch the tires in fourth gear, with the codes. Keep in mind that the engine isn't broken in yet and I haven't even taken it past 3500 rpm. There is obviously a problem here and everything underneath looks ok? Not sure why the poor traction as compared to the 93? I'm sure that tire quality is one big factor. Ran potenza's on the 93 and have kumho's on the 89 for the time being. Was there some sort of traction control device on the 93 that my 89 may not be equipped with? Any other ideas?

No computer traction control on either AFAIK. Do you get axle hop? If so, decent control arms and/or reinstalling Quads (if they are missing) can help (as you know).

TL in good shape (no one wheel peel?)?

I would be excited about scratching 4th. :rlaugh: Are you running a turbo? (lagging was mentioned, though 'lagging poorly' in turbo talk is good. Since lagging is bad, if it happens poorly, that is good. :D ).

Good luck.

lol, no it's actually lagging poorly. No turbo, no mods of any kind. Maybe I should rename my nic to my$1000project. I give $100 for the car, and it's bone stock, with a fresh rebuild. Both tires seem to scratch. no axle hop, then again I haven't dumped the clutch as of yet (waiting a few thousand miles to really get on it), so thet may be a possibility. Guess I'll break the motor in and give an update in a few months.
