I was at the dealer the other day to have them test drive my car to see how they thought the trans sounded on the 1-2, 2-3 shifts. (Regarding the crunchy shifting sounds on the related TSB.)

As the service manager was driving my car, and he pointed to my Hurst billet shifter, mentioning that the shifter is "adjustable." I asked him what he meant, and he said "you can adjust the stop bolts."

Well, I didn't install the stop bolts. Everyone online seems to say that the manual trans in the Mustang has built-in stops, which I mentioned to him. He said "Yes, they have internal stops, but you still need to install the stop bolts."

Has anyone here installed them on their Hurst (or other shifter?).

Is it possible for me to install them without taking the whole shifter out of the car?

Thanks!

The factory trans does have stops so you don't over yank the shifter, some shifter manufacturers make additional ones but they don't recommend them unless you are extremely aggressive in your shifts. My recommendation is put a couple of bucks a week away until you have enough for an MGW shifter.

I bought the Hurst over the MGW by choice. I could afford either. I have driven Honda's for years, and I'm not looking necessarily for a "buttery smooth" shift. I prefer the look of the Hurst.

That said, I'm not overly aggressive with my shifts. Well, maybe 2nd gear on occasion.

I don't go to the strip, either.

I know this sucks as an option, but why don't you put the old shifter back in and see what it does? If it crunches then have the tsb performed Other than that everything should work as it should, factory stops that is...

My car is a 2007.

TSB 09-19-17

I had the service manager drive the car the other morning. He was driving it around the parking lot (with me)...clutch in, just going from neutral to 2nd. I told him you have to "drive" the car," not just flip the shifter back and forth.

So we drove it down the street. He shifted rather slowly, I thought, and the problem (for me) doesn't really show up when driving like that. I told him to shift faster, like NORMAL...and he didn't feel anything.

I really don't know what to do. When the car is cold it kinda SOMETIMES is crunchy going into 2nd or 3rd....like you didn't put the clutch all the way down. It goes into gear fine, just with the feel of "mechanical engagement."

He told me that once you open up these transmissions, "they're never the same afterwards." I don't know if that was him trying to give me a "warning" or to scare me away so I don't have them work on the car.

I have about 3500 miles left to figure it out.
