i installed a pro 5.0 shifter in mine like a breeze. Just take off the black trim around the shifter, an there should be 4 small bolts on the small rubber boot. Take them off and then there shouuld be 4 more bolts on the shifter itself. I think you might have to do some center console movement to get to the screws in the front. But once its out, its just dropping in the shifter and bolt on. Pretty simple. but then again, you apparently have an 85. mine is 87 so i dont know if its the same or not. Good luck

Have had one in my 87 notch for years. EZ to install and works just fine. I use a Hurst oversized knob on mine which (to me anyway) has a much better feel than the smaller white one that comes with the shifter.

and even better than those, is the hurst pistol grip. Ive tried t-handle, ball, stock shifters, and nothing, i mean NOTHING compares to the sexy look and feel of a pistol grip.

This is a pic of mine a month back or so

You can leave it in. I had mine out while taking the radio out and the alarm system.

I have the Hurst Billet Plus and it was a vast improvement over the shifter that came with the T5Z.

Personally, I like my pro 5.0 better, and like MGW over all.

Ive got the pro 5.0 in my 91 and personally I love it. I always did like the look of the big chrome handle of the shifter your talking about but i didnt think it would go with my car. I ended up pulling my console to put mine in.

I think for now i will stick with the white ball when i get bored of that i will change it out for something....If i run nitrous..i might go with the ball they had on gone in 60 seconds.... Go baby Go...LOL i kinda liked that one...But i have my heart set on an B&M 144 blower....Im close to getting one now...But i have other things i need to do 1st like exhaust..its bone stock...i want to do the cooling system...High flow water pump 3 rom radiator...etc...I want long tubes...H -pipe no cats...Mac exhaust...sub frames...adjustable lower A arms...I have a pretty long list...I would love to get this car to run low 13's high 12's i hope i can...I dont know what it even would run in stock form.....Maybe i should run it to baseline it...

i would run it now to see what it does in comparison to later. but youre gonna need so much when u get the blower. and of course, i have a list myself, but i want it subtle and not too crazy. maybe 13 to 12 also. i want a crower 15511, gt40p heads (ported and 3 angle valve job), ported cobra intake, and nice long tubes to x pipe with slp loudmouths. and a t56 tranny. i want 6 speed . but yeah, my car should do 13's with that.

Well i ran B&M's before i should be able to get the stang to go pretty good...some good traction..good shifting...and hopefully im there....Right now i have an 06 Mag SRT-8 with a little juice.... I run 12.0's at 118 mph on street tires...But i have to get rid of due to high payments and high gas prices...it drinks gas like its going out of stlye plus i have a 93 325i bmw that i use to commute...I love the GT i always wanted one so its like toy really...lol...

I've always liked those but i want one with about a 45 degree slant towards the driver's side so that it's sort of between a typical pistol grip and that grip. Either that or just take that one and lean it forward more.
