I installed a Hurst Short throw shifter and i am getting a terrible rattle. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the shifter several time. Contacted Hurst and they said to put a peice of plastic between the shifter arm and where it connects to the shifter... This did not work.. spoke with Steeda and they said to try putting the stock rubber bushings back on..this was not something i really wanted to do but tried it anyway...but this also did not work. After getting under the car again found that where the shifter rod (not sure the tech name.. kind of new at all this) connects to the Trans, seems to be loose and the cause of the rattle..
This rattle is really bad... usually kicks in around 2500 RPMs. Mostly would hear it in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but now i am starting to hear it in 5th.
Has anyone run into this problem? If so were you able to correct it? Any recommendations as to how i can?
Thanks! :bang:

i dont know if the V6 shifter is similar to the GT shifter, so i can only try my best to help with personal experience with the GT shifter.

do these pics look like your set-up?

did you install both plastic bushings at the bottom of the shifter? did you put locktite on the nut for the linkage? check all 4 fasteners to make sure they are tight.

this write up may be of some help... http://www.stangnet.com/Tech-Articles/S197-HURST-Short-Throw-Shifter-Install-061016.html

let me know if any of this helps or not.

Hey BigCat,
Yeah they are pretty much the same thing... only real difference i know of is the bend in the front of the shifter on the V6 is more of a 45 degree then on the GTwhich looks more like a 20 degree bend. I followed the instructions during installation so i usedthe locktite and torqued everything down. I also took it to a local shop for them to take a look at it and they say its the shifter and that some kind of harmonic vibration from the metal on metal. I honestly don't know if i am ok with this answer. I am going to contact another shop in the area JDM in Freehold NJ. Maybe they will have better luck with the issue.
Thanks for trying to help!
