Hypertech vs. dyno

I'm new to this sort of thing and was just wondering, what's the difference between using a hypertech on your car and programming everything yourself, rather than using a dyno and paying more?

Am I missing something?

Is the hypertech not as precise?

Also, can you use 1 programmer on more than 1 car?

You usually get better gains from a dyno tune, the downside is you have to pay every time you reprogram. I am pretty sure the hypertech programmer connects itself to one car, you may be able to use it as a code scanner on other cars however.

the Hypertech is very limited in it's tuning capability. having a custom chip burned on the dyno allows you to tailer the AF ratio of your car throughout the RPM band as well as tons of other functions and parameters. Dyno will cost more, but you get what you pay for. Just make sure you use a reputable tuner.

I agree, I use the programmer for the shift points, gear ratios, rev limiter adjustment and lower fan turn on setting mainly. I called hypertech to inquire about what timing is preset with their programmer and was told its at 14 degrees. My car runs better with it, but Im sure a professional dyno tuner is by far better! Plus u have to pretty much leave your car close to stock as possible with the hypertech cause they tune your car according to the stock settings.
