I am a rookie owner of 68 Ford Mustang

I am not a mechanic.....and am learning as I go....great site I will have a ton of questions:

First one.....I have drum brakes on this car and that simply will not do because it takes forever to stop.....and I have been told that doing a front disk brake conversion would be the best as I want to car to drive like a modern vehicle....or as close as possible.

I have no idea of prices and while I love old cars I am not rich......how much does it cost to do the converstion....kit? labor?

Hey Dude, what's up?! You came to the right place. We'll do all we can to help. Post a pic or two of your car to get us a feel to what it looks like.

As far as your question; we need more info on the car itself i.e. Vin number and door date build #'s (on door) It is loaded with info for us. Is the car a V8 or I6? Big difference in suspension and breaks. What are your plans? If you want to drive like modern, it could get pricey. Look for a response.

A simple disc brake conversion kit can start at about $350 and up to $2K. That is just for the parts. Can you turn a wrench? With simple hand tools the conversion could take place in an afternoon. I would guess labor from a resto shop would probably be $200 or more. Hard for me to guess because I do all my own work. For me it is a learning experience and stress relief from everyday life.

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who has had a 68 fastback for almost 5 years and has not driven it yet.

They have complete kits with instructions. You don't sound like you want to mess around with finding bits and pieces... then wondering if you have the right parts. So what they call the "granada swap" may not be your cup of tea. Most amateus wrenches should be able to do this swap. Just use common sense.

i have a 67, same as your 68 basically, and I drove it a year in Houston with drum brakes, it isnt too bad, but I do love my 11" disc's now. If you are going with 16" or bigger wheels, lemme know and we can get 2004 Cobra 13" disc brakes on your car for about $600

I have a 1969 with the front disk conversion. Makes a woooooorld of difference. I got to drive my car to work today before I start tearing into it

Everyone at work says "it looks like a lot of work, but like rhyno says, it is a stress relief and a learning experience!

I finally am in a position to have my daily driver, so I can have a mustang project car (something I can leave in progress and still get to work in the morning)

I hear you man on the four wheel drum brakes.. I am going four wheel disc if I can get anybody to give me a good price on an explorer rear end but that is a TOTALLY different story.. Since you have a v-8 stanger you are already way ahead of me man that is your luck.. Oh and by the way the only way to learn is to try so have some fun with it... just don't do anything crazy like cutting out crossmembers or something and you will be dandy...
