I am very happy with my new 1/4 mile times...

We had a "Night of Fire" racing Saturday night at the the dragstrip
featuring some Jet powered cars. It was quite a show.
I took my car to race in the trophy class because it only cost $5.00 more to
race than to watch.
My last trip to the track, I ran a best time of 14.27 @95 mph.
Since then, I replaced my fuel pump with a carter high-volume and switched
from a 625 cfm carb to a 750.
Saturday night I ran a best time of 13.44 at 100 mph.
My 0-60 ft time was 1.92 on my BFG's radial t/a's.
Now that's more like it..... :nice:

Thanks.
My combo is a 71 351C 2v.
bored .030, And Balanced.
flat-top hypereutectics (Kieth Blacks)
Comp cams 270H
Crane Energizer roller rockers
Wieand xcellerator intake
Currently a Carter 750 carb
Carter HV fuel pump, holley pressure regulator
MSD 6A, with MSD probillet dist.
Heads are NOT ported.
SS valves with Bronze guides, Hardened seats.
Hooker Headers
C-4 with an Edge perfomance 2700 stall converter.
3.50 Trac-loc 9"
That's all off the top of my head, I am sure I am forgetting something.

Wow that's awesome!! I wish I could have made it down there last weekend. I went to rock fall's muscle car day. I had a buddy down there with his 68 cougar that was tubbed and running 9's. I know he had trouble though. Next time I go down, I'll p.m. ya. :nice:

LOL...you don't NEED to ports those heads!! Clevelands run real strong when set up right.
You can get some good improvements on the 2V heads with some cleanup and polishing, can't you?

I'm wondering, because I was planning on doing some minor things with mine. Gasket matching, polish the exhaust side, remove some obstructions,... I think there are a couple areas to work on. Is it a bad idea to do that?

No, it’s a good idea, particularly on those heads. You may want to trade them in for a set of CNC’d/ported heads from a company called Power Heads. You might be better off in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I may be in the market for aftermarket heads some time in the next 10 years or so, but at the moment they are very low on my list. $$$

Neat stuff there! Yeah, I originally was going to just throw a junkyard 2V cleveland in my car, but I was told by people here that it was a bad idea. So, at the minimum I'm tearing it apart and checking everything first. If everything checks ok, I may still put a cam and lifters in it to improve it, just because tearing it apart is quite a bit of work. Then porting the heads sounds like fun. I want to do the body, trans and rear end before I start building a higher performance engine.

I'm not trying to make the car really fast right now, just make it a little more fun than it is with the stock I6. I also want to keep the car on the road and the body can't handle a lot of power until it's fixed IMO. Why own it if I can't drive it?

Sorry for the hijack.

ok since we are talking 1/4 times i have some new ones and would like opinions on it. i went 14.3 @100 with 2.4 60ft.lets keep in mind that my tranny sux and wont go in to third if im at more than 4000rpms, and its either bleeding pressure or its put pressure to two gears. i hit the rev limiter at the 1000ft. mark and ride through on the rev limiter. is the car capable of going at least mid 13 with a good tranny. the numbers just dont seem to hold to any theories of times and nothing seems to fit right.
