Well on my second pass i hit third and my rear let go. I either broke my spider gears or a pin in the carrier, my ring and pinion are shot. I am going to put a stock rear back in the car for the time being. I probably have 100+ launches on sticky tires so its to be expected, the only thing that i'm upset about is that i dont have a 12 second slip to show for it. Being in between jobs I can't afford to upgrade (low funds). But i'm no quitter, i might put some 4.30s back in and let it rip again next week, or 3.73s. I have a local guy thats selling selling both ratios. I'm a bit torn because I'm running Street Stang in FFW, meaning I have to run street tires. So either im running 3.73s on stock bullitts or 28 tires on my welds with the 4.30s. I'll know whats happening on Monday.

P.S. on my first pass i spun out of the hole and hit the limiter on my 1-2 shift and still ran a 13.22 @ 102.4 w/1.84 60'. 12's would have been no problem last night:mad: I cut a 1.72 60' on the pass that broke

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Sounds like you have a plan, though. Question for you - do you have a roll cage in your vert? I thought NHRA required a 6 point for 13.99 & better? I'm curious because I've got a vert and am planning on running it this spring/summer.

Thanks and good luck!

Jay

no roll bar/cage, my track is pretty leniant(sp?) You have to remember, a lot of the verts out there can run 13's stock(ls1s,stangs) and its hard to go tell a guy to put a cage in a bone stock street car.

I had a stock rear diff/axles with the exception of the ring and pinion. I'm proud of the abuse it took. I looked at the drawer I keep my slips in and i'm thinking i have a lot more than 100 hard launches on it.

And I only mentioned breaking like two weeks ago, sorry to hear about that.

But just think about what you can build up when you have the money for it...... 6000rpm ET Street launches sound like fun......but then there's the tranny.

:nice:

sorry to hear about that man. but i was just kinda waiting for it to happen after reading about most of your runs. on a stock rear-end it was on borrowed time anyway, with the way you were launching :D get it fixed soon, i wanna see it run in march :nice:

I wouldnt worry about the tranny, the weaker spot is the rear on the launch. The tranny/clutch hold out great to track abuse if you ask me. I think a lot of peoples problems with the tranny's come from missing gears and eventually leading to synchro failure. If you wan to have fun you are going to break stuff unless you shell out the money before hand, i'm just mad cause if it were an axle i would have been back on the road again, but now i have to shell out the money for another ring and pinion

damn, makes me worried about getting DR's in the spring

but 12's! you're so close!!!

He was going pretty hard on his launches. If you're just slipping the clutch out on 17" DR's, I wouldn't get paranoid over anything. But there's always risks, that's the name of the game.
