OK...at work today a cobra rode up...and my boss was outside lookin at it, talkin to the owner, so i thought i'd go take a peak. Yea it was a real cobra 1995.

I said: How much power does it have?
He said: 625hp

ok...this is total BS...there are the mods he told me, or that i could see.

Ported twisted wedge heads
port matched cobra intake

Built 302 bottom end

there is NO way that this combo could reach 625HP. He said he's never had it on the dyno, but thats what people tell him. He's running on no tune, and using the Vortech FMU. He said it'll run 10.33's in the 1/4th...

I hate it when people get nice cars and know nothing about them...

Guess that throttle body myth has been answered. You certainly can run 600+HP with a small one.

With the right compression I have no doubt it could lay down 500rwhp. 625 crank hp would be a stretch though.

I'd call him on BS, but I think, with perfect tuning, and everything running perfectly, he wouldn't be horribly far from those numbers. Call me crazy, but more ridiculous things have happened.

with a tko it is probably closer to 18% loss so if he would dyno 500rwhp it would be alfully close to 625. The power could be there... The times though?!!... In his dreams. 10.30's!!! Setup and as light as an all out drag car i could see it.

BTW: Power wise i woud say more like 450 rwhp with everything setup right.

I have a feeling this guy is in for a rude awakening when he hits the dyno or the strip.

That would be at their maximum capacity, but they could do it. Having said that, they'd max out at pretty much exactly 7000rpm@10psi.

actually if it was anything like my setup they would peg the mas air meter about 5,500 rpms. Through tuning they will still be effectice till about 6200 or so.

He reminds me of a customer of mine, I built a chevelle for him, Sorry for the cursing, Anyway I had it running and tuned it on the dyno, 472 BB, rwhp was 465 thru a 4l80 e auto trans, so i figure a 20 to 30 % loss thru that, And i tell him he probably at or around 560 or 575 at the flywheel. So just as we pull it off and into the lot some people show up and what does he say...Oh yeah it just made 700 hp. I just turned and walked away. Some people wil always be idiots and full of

Running 10.30's and its streetable...i doubt it. he might run low 12's or high 11's if he's got slicks. Yea people that don't know what they have and try to brag about it piss me off too

total bs. if he had 625hp he would need 55 or 60lb injectors. the bottom end is built, is it still 302 or did he up the displacement? if he was making that power that manifold is choking it to death. i would say 450 plus to the wheels, unless his aftermarket waterpump adds 80hp. lol.

Why couldn't you do 10.3 in a 625hp car?

Assuming a race weight around ~3400lbs and the right powerband, gearing, suspension and tires this doesn't sound impossible to me.

625hp sounds a little high for that intake/tb, but I don't think it's too far off. Here's my friends combo making 657RWHP.

347 8.5:1 compression
AFR 185 heads.
Ported lower SysteMaxII lower w/ Vortech/Saleen upper
1.6 scorpion rockers
S-trim (2.75 upper, 6.87 lower) 14#
1 3/4 BBK longtubes, 2.5" Dr.Gas X pipe, and 3 chamber delta flow flowmasters
SMC 'Superpump' methanol injection (straight methanol, no water mix)
PMS tuned.

see, your friends combo is the ticket for 600+ hp, not the other guys setup. what size injectors does your buddy have? well over 42's i'm sure. that cobra intake that guy is running wouldn't allow him to make over 600 horse. my car was making 470 to the wheels with a cobra intake (extrude honed upper, hand ported lower) and it was completely choking it. i went to an edelbrock performer rpm II manifold and it made a world of difference. come on people.
