rotate it and do it from a more accessable location.

you might have to take off your axle if there is no other way... which is easy... and you might as well change the fluid back there anyway...

so take the cover off... do the proper steps... remove the c-clip with a magnet... pull out axle... install stud... re-install axle with new bearings/seals(both sides)
 
i had that problem, believe it or not, my 5 studs broke off while doing 70 on the freeway, how, i think the tire shop left the nuts loose. lucky for me, it was the rear tire and the axle pinned the tire down and didn't let it fly away. what i did was push the studs in just enough to get through the rim, then put the nut on and tightened them really good. i kept tightening them several times a day for about 5 days. it was not the best solution but it worked.
