My dad is getting me an 05 GT when I move off to college. I want this thing to be a BEAST. But, I currently drive a 65 mustang, everything is mechanical so it is very simple (speaking of the engine here). But when it comes to EFI computer controlled cars, I dont know dick. When I look under the hood of a new mustang, I get dizzy. So I have some questions, any of which can be answered directly. However, I would really like to find a techsite(s) that covers the entire engine and it's supporting systems.

So:
1) Do throttle bodies open and close like a butterfly valve? If so, is this the only thing that dictates the airflow to the engine? What is a small size throttle body? a medium size? a large size? Can a throttle body be too big?

2) What is a MAF's pourpose?

3) What is the deal with an upper AND lower intake? Do they perform diffrent tasks?

4) Are these cars DOHC or SOHC? Are there good cams on the market yet? Are there good heads out there yet?

5) What is the deal with injectors rated in lbs?

6) How strong is the shortblock? What is the compression ratio? Are there good forged bottem end parts yet?

7) How hard is it to work on your own car? looks like theres a lot of crap in the way of everything.

8) Is the aftermarket doing good? how is the price (realitivly).

Have you seen this site? http://www.turbochargedpower.com/ Movies at the bottem are awesome. The site says they're going to start making kits for the 05 mustang. I'm thinking about selling the 65 for a twin turbo kit on the 05.

Thanks
Tyler

I'll try to answer what I can...and anyone can feel free to correct me

1. Yes, throttle bodies open up like butterfly valve. Throttle bodies can be too big because air goes in with higher velocity with a small tubing...but with a bigger tubing, there is more air flow, and you want the perfect balance where you got enough velocity and air flow, or something.

2. mass air flow. it measures the amount of air going into the engine

3. I'm not sure what you mean by upper and lower intake, do you mean...like, one is longer and another is shorter? If so, to maximize airflow at different RPMs, I guess.

4. I think the GT is a SOHC. I can't answer if they have good heads/cams out yet.

5. Not sure. Maybe....the max amount of pressure it can handle?

6. check specs on www.ford.com

dunno the rest

The MAF does measure air flow and sends a signal to the computer which controls the injectors. The injector are rated in lbs per hour you don't wan't to excede 85% duty cycle meaning they shouldn't be fully open at full throttle only 85% time. So if you go more horsepower you need bigger injectors not to big though. you probably don't need to upgrade injectors unless you increase your hp by more than 60 plus horses. Only ported stock heads at the moment cams are just coming out but I don't think anyone has them for sell yet. A good CAI and tune will give you 20+ hp. The stock block can handle about 600hp according to SHM many companies have forged parts for the 4.6 the internals are the same as previous 4.6 just diff heads cams 3V. A supercharger would be cheaper easier and there are several to choose from know.
