I drove my car tonight

Finally, after 13 months of not running, I took my car around the block 3 times tonight. It chugs a little bit, and the oil pressure seemed a little on the low side. It's about 35psi at idle when the car is hot. It doesn't idle quite as nice as it did before either. Hopefully all that will be smoothed out with a tune. Also, the vacuum gauge stopped working. It's a little lower than it was before in the front, and it scrubs bad when I go over the bump down to the street. But yeah, it feels good to have a stang again. Off to emissions next week hopefully.

Sounds good. If youre anything like me, you'll have the kinks worked out soon. I would almost rather not drive it, then have it running with issues. I like my baby to run like it should, without as much as an exhaust leak.

I think the first step is to get it clean. It's pretty nasty from sitting. Then unfortunately the first stop is emissions, then off to the alignment shop. Then I'll worry about crap like the vacuum gauge.

at idle my oil pressure will go down to 25-30psi. but under any kind of load or rev it goes back and stays at 50

Yeah, I have a high volume oil pump in this one. It actually goes right to 60 psi once it's over 1000 rpms. I just remember my old engine never going below 35 psi when it was new. This block has been modified to get more oil to the thrust bearing surface, so that might have something to do with it. It's not really bad or anything, but after spending 13 months and thousands of dollars getting this car running, I'm paranoid.

It's well over 40psi, not that I think Ford spec applies on a modified engine. I can't wait to get home and play with it. Nothing like driving it, then having to go to work for 3 days immediately. I'm going to mess with the timing and fuel a little bit. It's definately running way too rich. Got to get it leaned out to pass emissions on monday.

Your probably right, now there is less restriction your getting less pressure. I sit around 45 at idle.

Thanks for all the replies. I still have a long road ahead. I have to do the dreaded 500 brake in miles. 13 months is a long time to have a car down for me. With my rediculous work schedule, and almost 4 months of flooring it's understandable though.

Yes, I did go out to the garage in red slippers. Not sure the exhaust clip is of much value, because the mic on this little camera is so overloaded.

No cats and it's running pig rich. I have the chip on the richest setting. I'll set it back to lean and dial back the fuel pressure, throw on my ghetto cats, then take it to my redneck emissions guy and pray for the best.

Oil Pressure is fine....When I do extensive mods to the oiling system idle is always a little lower depending on exactly what is done. The key is as soon as you touch the throttle it should increase immediately.

I tell all my customers 500 miles as well, truth be told as long as you seated the rings when you first started it...its ready to go UNLESS you have a clutch to break in as well.

Thanks for the reply Rick. The oil pressure jumps to 60psi the instant you hit the throttle, so I'm glad to have some re assurance there. The clutch was off the old engine. I had changed it not long before the transmission blew, so no break in there. What exactly do you mean by seat the rings? I changed the start up oil before I drove it. It had a little bit of black goo in it, which I assume is all the assembly lube and the ARP thread lubricant washing out.
