I drove my car tonight

A little wash and wax with some interior cleaning after the car sat in the dirty garage for a year.

Today's emission test was an abysmal failure. If I run it too rich it failes the HC ppm. If I run it too lean it fails the CO%. I think I'll just have to richen it out, and find better cats.

Once you get spme heat into the cylinders, 5 or 6 nice steady pulls up into the 4000rpm range shoudl help seat the rings.

First few oil changes may be a little dark depending on assembly lube used, I like to cut open the oil filters too.

Shoot me an email with your phone number and when is a good time to call [email protected] Ill give you an "idea" on the emissions, Id rather not post it.... BTW I always thought your car was red..lol

I sent you an email Rick, thanks once again. Yeah, lots of people think I have a red car for some reason. It's probably because my buddy has a red 94' Cobra that I work on a lot, and is the source of a lot of my technical pics.

Well, I did a little test work on the engine this week, starting with a compression test. Guess what, one cylinder had 0 compression. I took the valve cover off and found an exhaust valve a hair out of adjustment. Just a stupid stupid mistake to make, especially since I've adjusted valves about 100 times. Re did the test and all cylinders are 150 to 165 psi. I finished up my cat pipe, which I'm pretty proud of, because I had to fab it from scratch without a tube bender or a tubing notcher. All I had was pre bent pieces from the autoparts store. And yes, that is a functional cross over. The cats get wicked hot even without a smog pump. All that 2000 degree black exhaust paint I put on to keep it from rusting flaked off past the cats.

I went back to emissions, and it passed with ease. I didn't even make any substantial fuel pressure adjustments. Drove up to Canton and got my registration sticker. It's off to get an alignment later this week, and then I can start driving it again.

Wish i could pass with ease. Nice looking h pipe though...

Yeah, it actually did awesome. Not quite as good as last time, but last time I leaned it out a little more.

25mph test

Actual/Allowed
HC ppm 90/117
CO% 0.05/0.65

15mph test

I'm guessing they don't run it on the dyno in your state; that's why you're failing. If they ran it up a little on the dyno it would probably pass. Most cars don't run well at idle. What kind of cats are you using? High flows are generally a waste of money. The flow better than standard cats, but not as well as no cats, and yet they don't burn off enough to pass emissions.

Pypes high flow 3''

Im gonna play with the tune at idle and see if i can take care of it that way... Its the fact that im in a low load situation. Ill probably lean it out a bit and add some more spark. This way the exhaust is nice and hot and should warm those cats up.

I am running the Pype's catted X-pipe as well and had trouble passing idle HCs too.
I cranked up my idle to 1000rpm and it squeaked by getting just under the 220 HC reading.
I was also running 1 heat range colder spark plugs than stock at the time.
