hi all i just got my own 2004 mustang gt convertable and from looking and reading about other peoples mustangs they all talk about removal of an air silencer for a more throaty sound along with small hp increase if anybody could help me with removing mine... maybe a website wit a tech write up or some pictures or maybe its easy enough for somebody to just tell me thanks all

It's a rubber snorkel between the air filter box (big round plastic thing that houses the filter), and the passenger side fender. If I remember right,all you have to do is take out the air filter box bolt (it bolts to the fender near the top), and with some tugging and turning,you can remove the rubber silencer.

The idea behind removing for more hp, is that you get a better airflow....this is b/c the air isn't sucked between a two-three inch tube, instead it's sucking from a much larger area.

Be advised ... Not everyone does it. While it may gain some peak hp way up in the tach band, "some" dynos have shown you lose a bunch or torque down low in the band where you need it. I am not telling you to not pull it. All I am saying is that there is two sides to this that may be worth checking out. BTW, this is the most worn-out topic on Stangnet. There have been billions of threads and posts on the subject....

the only good thing that came out of my car getting hit on the front bumper...the air silencer came out like a champ w/ everything in tact not having to pull anything off or apart...but now its in the shop for about 2 and a half weeks. what a life!

i cut mine where it goes into the fender. will still draw the cooler air from the fender and the opening is a little bigger. made the most sense to me.....who knows.

I'm a newb just like you

Just take off the air box assy. Its the tube thingy that stick into the fender. The sound inprovment is worth it to remove. I live in Texas so I'm looking for the coolest intake charge I can get so I ended up just triming it. Want to do something else because I still feel a power decrease when I'm in traffic and it is hot outside. Does any CAI actually work in this regard (ie. keep the intake cold relatively during hot weather). Here in Texas when it gets hot, I can tell a big difference power.

I wish! It just sucks the air from outside the engine compartment.
