since i dont have a 5 speed mustang, i feel like i'm not getting the whole 5.0 "expierence"

is a 5 spd stang really as great as it seems or am i just stupid???

hopefully i will save enough money to swap one it my car!
also, is the 5 spd swap really THAT BAD???

i get this jist that its the ABSOLUTE HARDEST THING TO DO ON GODS GREEN EARTH!

I mean you just drop trannies and the hardest part is the pedal install....

I mean i bet its hard i just dont think it would be that bad would it???

Some find wrecked cars to get everything needed and some piece it together. MPS racing in atlanta sells a kit with everything needed, but it does cost. Check e-bay, sometime you can catch kits on there, or kit that has everything but the trans. The swap isn't that hard, and the pedal assembly can make you say a few choice words

i personally think that a 5spd an aod cannot compare. i driven aod 5.0 and was bored of it. then got back in my 5spd and started pounding gears and got that thrill of driving back. to me a mustang just isnt a mustang with an auto..

To give you an idea... I went from T-5 -> AOD

The t-5 swap is not the endall of performance. A lot of the FASTEST drag cars are autos since no human can shift as fast as an automatic. I say drop $7-800 on AOD parts and keep the convenience of the automatic. Shiftkit and 3000 stall and a nice 4.10 or 4.30 gearset will make you cold serve any t-5 stock stang. And you can still drive around with 1 arm out the window.

As for the swap, if you do it yourself.....you'll find that removing the AOD is downright the hardest part. That is a 200+ pound monster! Yeah and I can see the pedals making one invent new curse words.

well i know the auto is better for racing but my car isnt going to pulling wheels off the ground or anything, its juset going to be a nice street car.

yeah, if you want ultimate performance, stay auto, go buy a manual valve body with a fully auto switch http://www.lentechautomatics.com

but if your like most people who just want 12 second passes, you could swap in a t5. T5's are much funner to drive, when your cruising and a stupid ricer is pulling by you and reving, you can just drop it down and BAM. gives you this superior feeling. haha. but you can do that with manual valve body too. not to expensive i think 400-500 for a complete street kit. i've heard it feels like full powershifts.

I just helped my friend swap his auto out of his 94 v6 to a 5-speed and it went pretty easy. We did it all in about a day at an auto hobby shop. The hardest part was getting the neutral safety switch right and the pedals. It has mad a night and day difference in his performance and it deffinetely increased the fun factor of driving for him. My car is a 5-speed and I love it ... I say do the swap if you are going to keep the car reasonable and not an out and out drag car.

If you do stay with the AOD definatley get a good valve body and converter. Makes a night & day differnece in how an auto performs. You can get a full manual or the manual/auto valve body. I have the manual/auto in mine and love it. On days you feel like just cruising, put it it drive and go, and once you get up to 55mph flip the swtich for overdrive. Now when you want to play pull it down it 1st and have fun. A good VB will basically make the AOD a 3 speed until you get up to cruising speed and flip the OD swtich.

Auto's suck

I have owned two 95GT's. One t-5, and the auto I now own. For me, I really enjoyed the t-5 more. No auto-tranny bog down low, don't have to slip the converter to get her moving, and just plain fun to bang your own gears. If you want to do the swap, go for it. But don't dive into modding your aod and then decide you want a t-5. It will be a waste.

Your auto can be fun to drive, and fast as hell. If you decide to keep it, get a transgo shift kit. It will wake up your tranny a bit, and make your car more enjoyable to drive. With stock 3:08's, and the transgo kit only on setting 1 of 3, I chirp the 1-2 shift everytime at wot, and hit the 2-3 very fast as well. Yet it is not to firm for around-town driving. It won't spill your coffee shifting at 2500 rpm's.
Get some gears next, and dial it all in with a chip (Rev limiter, shift points, speed cal). If you have the cash, go with a TC also. Stock vs stock, a well-driven t-5 car will hand you your ass, but a modded auto v.s. t-5 is a different story.

Forget about the AOD. Your original post says it all. Yep- if you have never had a 5spd mustang you need to. The 5spd really makes the car. I've had them both ways and the 5spd is way more fun. Trash that AOD!!!!!!

Yup..I test-drove an LX auto vert.
Now I went with a manual LX.
So much fun to drive.
Shifting gears is a part of driving a car.
Add a short-throw shifter and you're all set.

Do the swap man.

Hey foxfan88, I don't think your car is running properly if you ran a 16.8. In proper tune, your car should be nearly 2 seconds faster. I don't want you to think your car is that slow because you have an auto lol. My car, which is not supposed to be as fast as yours stock-vs.-stock, ran a 15.1 @ 93.3 on a warm and humid night, before my headers, I'm sure it's good for a 14.9. Your car should be at least this fast, or very close. Make sure it's in good tune and in proper running order. Because as we all know, it doesn't take much to drive an auto. Just a suggestion.

Ebay, you can get a sweet deal, i got everything i needed out of a 92 GT for 300 bucks. its a whole new animal after the 5 speed is in

Autos and Manuals have their places, pros, cons, and are totally different.

An regular automatic is good for stop and go traffic, but that's about it. Ford auto's suck terribly as well. When it comes to any "spirited driving" weather dragging or just having fun down a road, an auto will really take the fun out of it. With an auto, the only thing that separates you from the passenger is that your somewhat busy just pointing the car where you want it to go and controlling the throttle and brake.

Manuals are great when cruising down the backroads, or banging gears. When your driving a stick, your really driving. Your in complete controll. So much more fun. I'm a real fan of manuals. I like the auto in my truck, but of course the truck is for a different purpose.

One thing about auto's, once you put in a good converter and a manual valve body, or even a shift kit, they really become a different tranny. At the track with a high power car, it's the only way really, bracket racing it's a must. The thing I hate about all autos, even built ones, is they don't have the jump power from a roll. Instant responce from a manual, because it's always connected.

I just had my car swapped from AOD to T-5 recently (as you can see in my SIG) and let me tell you, its not just faster, but honestly it is SOOOOOOOOOOO much more fun to drive. I had never driven a stick before on a daily basis and it took a little bit of getting used to, especially learning on a brand new clutch, but TRUST ME, IT IS WORTH IT!

my votes for a t5 (or better) manual

u said u were thinking about selling that car anyway foxfan, id get what u can for that auto and buy a factory stickshift in good condition, doing the swap is good and all but thats all its gonna be is a conversion

plus, its costly, time consuming, and can cause a bunch of computer problems if not done right

i feel like i am missing out....
