Mainly because you cant even get a straight view on the peep hole. I can get the light on it good if I take the resevoir tank out but I can not get a good shot at the hole. So Im left looking at it from the front and guessing what my timing is set at. I just set it and figured I had it set good. It didnt ping like it did before then I got in the HWY and it was pinging.

So how exactly do you see the peep hole?

stand by the passengerside fender, look down along the belt, theres a small area of a clear shot the the timing pointer. quite easy to check and set once u know where to look ;) also putting white lines on your timing marks helps ALOT.

Yea Ill have to look into that. I didnt set it the first time, so It wasnt off. And it actually doesnt ping as much now, so its better. But ill do it again tomorrow and make sure its right.

Yeah, its pretty confusing the first time. But once you can see the "knife" edge, and point the light in that general direction, you'll be slapping yourself behind the head for not seeing it the first time. I usually see it through a tiny opening on the left side (as you're looking at it) of the upper rad hose. Its ridiculously hard to see, your eyes need a few seconds to focus on the right spot. Trying not to let the light touch the belt as its whipping around is the next challenge. Good luck.

These guys are right with the knife edge info. However, if you think it is hard to see now, You should run a supercharger like me and try to see down in there. I have to pull my supercharger belt and even then it isn't that easy. lol

Im pretty sure I could take it if I had a S/C

Ill take yours off your hands if you dont like it. :)

If it makes you feel better, I put my timing light into the alternator's external fan and the mech cooling fan while trying to time a GM a week or two ago. I think the service manual says something about using circus performers to view the timing marks, or a special GM tool consisting of a parascope with 5 telescoping mirrors. :D

:OT: Tom, I keep forgetting to PM you - the wheel is mint and delic!

I have to use a shop towel to wrap around the upper radiator hose. Pull it out of the way, then get a bead on it. It also makes a big difference on the light you use. I have a cheapy. It's not very bright and hard to see with. My buddy's dad usually sets mine. His light is much better. :nice: He still ******es cause my car is 10 times harder than his fox and he has a super charger on his. :bang:
