i bought a 40th anniversary gt convertible and really dont no much about getting more hp. I can spen prolly 4 or 5 hundred every 2 weeks buying mods but just dont no what to get when i got it in my pocket, and i cant save money so any ideas?

go with a catback and shifter for your first go around. the catback will give you 1 or 2 hp, but greatly improve the sound. the shifter will help out the shifts greatly. then i would suggest getting some gears, 3.73 or 4.10 are both good. then start changing out your fluids to synthetic. then go with a better air filter, or else a CAI, preferably one made from plastic ie K&N FIPK2. then you can get a plenum and throttle body. you can get a offroad H or X pipe if emissions arent a concern, or else one with high flow cats.

i personally wouldnt have done that, but it should be alright. im more of a borla fan for sound. also get a tuner such as Hypertech or SCT or Diablo. they will allow you to have different programs in your computer and also change for gears.

I'd forget intake bolt ons and save for a blower. Lots of people arent too happy with bolt on gains. Of course, mid pipe, gears, headers etc. (stuff that wont get replaced when you do the blower) is a great way to start. I say get gears and a mid pipe next. I want a Kenne Bell so bad.

so if i buy a blower what should i expect to have to replace as far as other parts go, and what type of blower should i get exactly.

What I'm saying is dont bother getting a chip yet (small gains unless dyno tuned then its only ~10hp and expensive!), dont bother with pulleys unless itll be ages till you do a blower, and dont get sucked in to spending 200 bucks or whatever on a cold air intake / straight shot, or blowing 400 bucks on a plenum and throttle body. I think youre better saving that cash toward a blower and getting really serious gains (you can spend a lot on bolt ons and never get what a blower will give you).

Since you have a convert the weight will slow you down allot. You say you have like 400 bucks to spend every 2 weeks well save for a blower that will give you the most bang for your buck. For now if you want to get rolling get some gears and a decent H or X pipe. Your 04 will not support a programmer well at least not a hypertech. I don't believe they have them for late models yet that's what the dude told me when I ordered mine. I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but if your vehicle consumes oil, using synthetic will increase your consumption, as it will flow better out the leaks, or past the out of tolerance parts. I wouldn't use synthetic on any engine that is going to be raced or beaten on, for this reason. Synthetic oil is man made and the chemicals that are in it can eventually damage parts over along period of time. Thats why the manual says to use only non synthetic oil only.

I had the same 'problem' as you do. I had money to spend and very little patience to save for a blower.

I knew I wanted the blower so I ended up getting bolt ons that I could use with the blower aswell.

1. Got rid of the 4x4 look with new springs, struts & shocks (Tokico hp series)
2. Added a borla stinger catback
3. Added a CAI (I was planning on using it with the blower but ended up removing it)
4. Added the SLP catted x (Sounds friggin mean with the borla)
5. Added an aftermarket shifter (steeda)
6. Replaced the stock clutch with a centerforce dual friction one (to prepare for the blower)
7. Added various dress-up parts like grille delete etc.

By now the vert was still kinda slow but sure sounded like it was moving :spot: I wanted to wait until my warranty did run out before I installed my blower. My local dealer still does warranty work for me with 'minor
mods but I doubt any dealer will do any warranty work once you have slapped a blower on your stang. Mine is a 2002 so Finally late this summer I went ahead and installed a 9 psi intercooled KB kit. Now the stang both sounds fast and can move...

The only 'wasted' bolt on was my CAI since I ended going with the complete KB kit. I guess I could have done gears but I was told that the stock gears do good with the KB. I do not intend to race the car so I am happy with that decission.

Good luck with the modding!
