i have a not so typical question about mil eliminators

i have a 1998 ford explorer with a 4.0 in it. the check engine light popped on, so i checked it out and it said bad cats. well my emmissions is due and they wont touch it with the light on. so instead of buying 2 new cats then paying to have them installed, i was wondering if i could just buy some mil eliminators for a mustang and throw those in to get the light off. the part number for downstream o2s is the same for my explorer and these year mustangs. so do you think that this would work?
any input is appreciated
Thanks,
Steve

yea no sniffer test for obdII, they just hook it up. mil's would be a lot cheaper, and i am goin to sell the car in a month or two so i dont really want to fix it. but do you guys think it will work?
I think you should buy the MILs, put them on, get it inspected, then RIGHT before you sell it, pull the MILs off. That way the code doesn't trip until they've paid you for it and they have to get new cats.

That's SO harsh, hahaha.
