I've gone through two brand new starter solenoids, one gave out in less than a day. My electrical system consists of a 3g Alternator, a powermaster mini starter, an optima red top battery, and all brand new wiring. Last time I installed my new starter solenoid, the car ran fine all day, then that evening I went to go start it up and it wouldn't crank, what ends up happening is for some reason power gets to the two terminals on the solenoid... the battery side and the S terminal, but wont transfer over to the starter side. I figure it may have something to do with the wiring for the starter, but it's wired up the way powermaster says it should be. One wire gets constant 12 volts from the side of the battery on the starter solenoid, then the other one goes to the starter side and gets 12 volts when you turn the key. I know I can use a jumper wire and just run a wire to the starter side of the solenoid but powermaster says this will shorten the life of the starter. Anyone else ever have this problem?
