ive been shopping around and this is pretty much what i am set on ...

edelbrock 2.02/1.60 performer rpm heads

edelbrock performer intake

comp cams xtreme energy 224/230 @ 512"to 515" lift

70 mm tb

76 MAF

MAC shorty 1 and 5/8 headers

new t-5

i should be looking at 290 to the wheels right? tell me what you guys think :flag:

That cam will most likely cause idle issues with that aode, but if you swap it to a T5 then you should be OK. I agree with wystang that you will need to notch the pistons for those heads to work. I'd go with long tube headers over shorties if you can swing it.

What CC are those heads in terms of port volumes?

i already bought the h pipe for the shorties and my budget is already going to be blown i will be paying on it for three years. My neighbor help me set up this combo as he used similar combos on his 1967 fastback and his 388 stroker shelby cobra

Keep in mind, you will spend fantasitcally more than you anticipate on the little crap as you run through the project (unless you have TONS of tools and parts and gaskets and ....).

Just keep in mind that with a big cam and big valves, it's going to make it's power up top. Street driving may suffer from this.

A head with a 1.90 intake valve would help flatten that power curve out.

Just depends on what you want to do with the car...

my combo next spring will be

Victor Junior heads
Performer RPM II intake
custom cam

expecting to make 325hp or more

I will have all the extra little stuff like CAI and stuff by then

What internals and block are you going to use? How high do you plan to spin it?

then why the vic jr heads? just curious, seems like it would make more power with some afr 165's. just me though.

true my block will probably not flow as well

I'm pretty sure I can still make the power I want with the VJ 210cc heads, and by the time I stroke it.. I wouldn't have to upgrade my heads. Just seems like too much of a PITA to buy small heads when a year later you build a stroker motor and could use the extra flow like the VJ's provide.

what heads would you honestly recommend ?? I just think the 165 is small for the price

Thats not fitting on stock pistons, unless you're gonna cut them? I agree with buying better stuff now knowing that you have stroker plans down the road. That combo will HAUL ASS on a 10.5:1 + 347! I would not put that stuff on a stock bottom 302, I would save up for the stroker and do it right. When you hit 425hp, you'll be happy ;)

Or buy those heads now and let me borrow them until you do your 347. I'll give them back, I promise :jester:

brothersperformance.com says they will fit all 302/351 applications

Sure you can bolt it on to a 302/351 but if you think you're fitting a 210cc 2.05 intake valve head on untouched stock pistons, you're mistaken. They'd need to be cut or (ideally) replaced with aftermarket ones with deeper reliefs.

I'll look into the aftermarket pistons.. do you know off hand which ones would produce the best

Rio, you will make over 300HP with this for a hew hundred more. Just look at the sigs and read the times and HP numbers from this stuff. Might as well do it right while it's apart.

AFR 165 heads
Edelbrock Performer intake
Custom cam
75mm Throttle body
Pro-M 77MM Maf
MAC 1 5/8 Long Tubes

I use forged probe srs flat tops in my 347. One thing I like about them is they have reliefs for TW and inline valve heads. Right now I run TW heads so if I ever wanted to run say a victor jr head, I could fit them too.

A victor jr headed 306 with a good intake like a rpm II you have planned will make very good power. The cam will be very critical. So decide what kinda power you wanna make and how high you wanna shift. You have 4.30 gears so no need to worry about excessive low end torque. I'd build the engine to make power to 7000 rpm. Upgrade your stock rod bolts to good arp's. Or save up a little more and do the 347. It requires the same machine work as a 306.
