is 16mpg around town or highway? I get 18mpg with my jeep on the highway and i wouldn't want to replace it with something that got anything worse. if i could put an exhaust, and intake on it and possibly a tune to increase gas mileage while driving like a sane person, i'd be all over an L. I LOVEEEEE them as much as i love a termi

Yeah Coupe. My 00 Lightning got 12 or 12.5 miles to the gallon. I had an open conical, flowmaster muffler and that's it. I always got on it. There is no reason to have a Lightning and drive it like a normal truck. Those trucks are as much fun, if not...more fun than driving a Mustang. I miss mine, but I had too much $$ tied up in it. Even my 97 F150 5.4L 4x4 truck gets about 12-13. The other day, I calcuated 11.9 per gallons...

Well i'd consider one to replace my current DD..

if i could drive it like a sane person, not get on it, would it be possible to achieve 18 MPG.. i don't think its possible even with intake, exhaust, and a tune.

Thats sweet mang, great deal!
I was looking at them about 8 months ago and decided 18-20K was too much. If I coulda found one like that for under 15K I woulda been all over it. And now that super is under 2.50 a gallon the mileage issue isnt as much of an issue

Oh yeah, they are a lot of fun. I don't know about 18MPG though. I never took mine on a long enough freeway trip to know all highway mileage. I remember one tank I babied it and only got on it a couple times and I squeaked out about 13.8. I would think all E-way would get you 15-16max. I buddy has the sticker still with his 01 L and it says 13 & 16 I believe.

18 would be a stretch, the most I've gotten is 16.7x driving about 52mph on a 55mph road(aka just taking my time) on the highway(55mph highway). Around here in BFE we don't have any actual interstates so I can't comment on if the mileage would go up or down on that behalf.

They are super fun trucks though, if they weren't losing value so damn fast over the stupid gas prices and economy I wouldn't even think about selling mine.

Thanks for the kind words guys, Im really lovin this truck. I played with it a little on the skid pad at work today. It is soooooo much more predictable than my mustang currently is. I can drift this truck as long as I want, but in my mustang I always spin out after a couple circles.

I never noticed the grill before, in fact I didn't know there was a difference. My guess is that somehow the original got messed up and was replaced with a regular one. I think it looks good either way, so I am in no hurry to buy the correct one to put on it.

I hate you Texas people. I was actually referring to the last year or so with that, it's never really bothered me. It only hurts when you go on a long trip somewhere.

I dynoed the truck at work tonight. I am pleasantly surprised by the results. I was expecting around 330hp and 400tq, but it ended up putting down 350rwhp and 415tq. The boost gauge was pegged at 10 psi, but since its stock Im sure the gauge is just inaccurate and its actually probably pushing 8psi.

I also put a lightning grille back in it, but I dont have pictures at the moment. I know I said the regular F150 grille didn't bother me, but the more I thought about it, the more it bothered me lol.

Here is the dyno sheet.

Damn sick man. Where did you say you were living now? We need to arrange a track day so I can wax that ass. I'll give you a 3 sec lead in the lightning, a 2 second lead in the stang

Define what you call "bad"? About any truck you buy won't get much better gas mileage than the L will. Sure some of the V6 trucks that are 2wd will get a good bit better but they won't go run 13's stock either. Most fullsize V8 trucks will get about the same with less power, they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Mine gets right at 16mpg, of course you have to drive it like a sane person to get that but they will do it when you just "drive" it.

have to agree here, i have a 4.0 ranger 4x4 that gets 15mpg consist. and its not fast at all so i dont think anyt other ranger owner would mind a slight mpg drop compared to a massive power increase...imo but i could be incorrect

Funny, I had a 4.0 4x4 Ranger before I got my Lightning and mileage wasn't too much different. I think I fit in with the first group of people you mention "not minding the mpg drop for more powa!"

Nice numbers for the stocker!

Those are good numbers for stock. My friends 01 laid down 380 and 480 with a 6lb lower pulley and an oval Throttle Body and a tune of course. I never dynoed my 00 Lightning when I had it but the new owner saw me at a dyno day at the shop and said he ran 13.50's with it. Mods were CAI, Flowmaster muffler and a big intercooler.

I highly recommend a CAI.

Be careful how much lead you give an L...they really pull hard out of the whole. I jumped my Dad's GT500 by a lot and he had a little trouble gettin back, but he came back eventually.
