well,i took all the information i gathered on exhaust noise and came up with this .....ok,i have 2.5 exhaust tail pipes comming off 40s and an h pipe.long tube headers[2000rpm drone city, hollow sounding exhaust]. i took a long header bolt,on the head of the bolt welded a round piece of stee:SNSign: l about the size of a silver dollar pounded into a cup shape..cup shape welded outward. on the threaded side I welded a seven inch long by 1 by 1\8 inch piece of steel. Around this bolt I wrapped a folded piece of chicken wire fencing...it was around 1 foot by 8inch folded lengthwise in half .It was the 1\2 inch square holed stuff. I then inserted the wrapped bolt ,cupped end facing in, till the edge of the steel bar was just flush with the edge of the tail pipe..I tacked it in with my welder...so all you see is the 1\8th by 1 edge of steel at the bottom of the pipe..it actually looks cool if you can see it....i took her for a test run and was amazed...what a great sound and at 2000 rpm she was quiet...sometimes I really surprise myself.

sounds like you have something cool going on there :nice:

I'd be very interested in some pics too, if you have them

how did you come up with this design? I mean, did you look at the diagram of the interior of the 40series and come up with this somehow? and does it sound the same at wot, you just killed the drone? if so, that's pretty neat.

:OT: but why do you need to have stuff that is "SOLD" in your sig??
RC

That may be misleading but I promised someone I would do that for them until I get the money for the Tweecer. I am supposed to get a paypal for it tonight or tomorrow but still waiting. I will change it tonight or tomorrow when I get the money.

BTW, I am really interested in the pic on this one. I think it is great someone came up with a solve for it.

ok I just drove about 8o miles, speed range from 105mph to slow ccruising into drone zone...i guess there is still something going on at drone speed ,but its way subdued, and other speeds are very quiet. At wot the car still screams but in more of a tuned way,not so echoee. I used the same theory on the design as sound bounce to cancel out some of the waves[cupped design]..I will do something about picks in the next 48 hours....

Cool.:nice:

Is this anywhere close to what you did...?

Living in the Midwest, I gotta show some respect for any repair that involves chicken wire. :hail2:

Need to modernize though. Sure you can't work some nylon tie straps and RTV into it somehow? :D

J/K, I too am curious how much flow restriction has been added with this mod. I've managed to buy two vehicles with brand new 40 series flows. I'm up for a temporary solution before I step up and buy four brand new mufflers at once.

I assume the chicken wire serves no purpose other than centering?

Why wouldn't you just buy a different muffler, instead of making a big exhaust restriction?

I like the drone anyway.

Cause some people love the sound of a certain muffler...like flows. But hate the drone....so if u can get rid of the drone, u can have your cake and eat it too:p

Here is another way people have gotten to work....

ok , the chicken wire is galvanized, doesn't hold a good weld, yes it does center it nice, today I was runin it up and down Ann Arbor in 2nd gear ,it has a real nice backpressure sound like a glass pack...hey I like f--kin with my car,Ive been to alot of military airshows and have learned every thing is a prototype...probably some japanese engineer taking notes from this site for the next Accord.

two more things, the bar in the drawing is a flat piece of steel sitting up on its end, after a little carbon I can't even see it anymore, I have noticed no lack of power ,and it feels more positive as if it needed that little bit of back pressure...it flat out works for my application.
