does everyones suck as bad as mine. When ever I am on the interstate I usually will dog it a bit before I get to my exit, and say get up to a 100mph or so but I soon as I hit the brakes about 4seconds into pressing them brake fade kicks in and brake smoke starts cookin. I bought a economy brake pad I might as well have thrown on some maxey pads. Do brake pads make that big of a differance?

Oh yeah, brake pads make ALL the difference. But no matter what stock fox brakes suck a$$.

Really my brakes rock. And there's really no modification to them. I would know.

yeah they suck. but mine 20 years old technology, brakes have came a long ways since....

The brakes in my '86 are absolutely HORRIBLE. Seriously, the HARBL has better brakes than that thing does. I'm pretty sure a lot of it has to do with the pads, though, since the prior owner threw on a set of el-cheap-o pads that crank out a buttload of dust and squeak a lot, even with 3/4 of the pad left.

The ceramic pads I put on the notch did add a bit of extra bite to the brakes, but nothing dramatic. Next set of pads I spring for, I think I'll invest in a set of those Performance Friction pads and hope they don't squeak or dust up a lot as a trade-off for the extra braking.

Yeah you '87+ guys have less to complain about than the 4 eye crowd, we've got tiny little disks and mine are bone stock. In fact since getting my coupe in '03 i have yet to EVER do the brakes on it...lol. Then again i don't drive it that much and they don't really need done yet, to say they suck is a huge understatement.

i agree...my buddies 01 GT stops on a dime compared to my 88.

I ended up getting a brake upgrade package from MM. A temporary fix until I do my 5-lug with a good brake set up.

Ended up with Hawk Pads, MM High Performance Rear Shoes, MM Stainless Steel Caliper Sleeves, and MM Stainless Steel Brake Hoses (3-hose kit). And then bought a pair of Power Slot Rotors for the front. A HUGE difference in stopping power from stock.

I put good pads on my Mustang with stock rotors and the braking was still terrible.

I finally decided to go with a 5 lug swap with '94 v6 spindles, rotors and calipers and the braking is greatly improved. Ive still got rear drums too.

IMHO the Fox should have never left the Factory with the Brakes they came with, they are terrible!
