I love "Top Gear" but sometimes....jeez

Ya and since when does the Shelby GT 500 NOT come with limited slip .

They have the limited edition open diff models. Very special export only feature. Ford had to skimp somewhere to cover those Ford Five Hundred sales failures.:D Well you can't the Brits to have good info on an exclusively American type car can you?

The 325hp and then the disappointed look when it has 250hp......does he not know about those old SAE gross ratings? I never cared for that show. They cover Euro cars well. I couldn't even watch it all the way through.

This show really ticks me off. I was thinking of making my own rant thread about this before I saw this one.

He was also griping about the solid rear, does he not realize that people with modded 03-04 cobras were tearing up halfshafts pretty regularly with IRS?

Did you guys see the one where he raced the 6 cyl. against an actual horse? It was supposed to be a GT. He said it was a GT.

yea..it seems like they dont even know what theyre talking about a lot of the times...have they ever rated a cars horsepower at the wheels? come on..he even says later that they added 200 bhp but no suspension..therefore he even knows that its 500 bhp...haha...that show sucks.....who here would pay 10 grand more to go 2 seconds faster around some random track?

Shelby doesnt have a limited slip diff.

I agree with everything they said about the live axle. When I heard the 05 stang was STILL going to use that crappy suspension I was like. :bs: :notnice: :chair: crapola

I usually like Top Gear but they DO have a problem with American cars. The stupid thing is they obviously like the American cars but find the need to try to bash them on the show. If you pay attention, you can see that a lot of what they say is directly contradicted by either what is shown in other parts of the show or just plain logic. The guy tries to make it seem like he'e looking down his nose at the car yet he owns an old Mustang muscle car personally. He tries to make it seem like he's not impressed by the power of the GT500 yet you saw his reaction when he first opened it up. He makes it sound like HIS Mustang is so great yet it's bearly got half the power of the GT500. He makes a big deal out of the actual RWHP being less than the engine's rated HP and in doing so, makes himself look like a fool. If the guy knew anything, he'd have to admit that with 447 RWHP, the engine's actually putting out MORE than 500HP!
Okay, I'll admit, he pissed me off.:damnit:

kool a thread on stangnet about somthing over here!

Top gear in general is a very good show, for no reason what so ever YES they do bash american cars ( did you all know that richard " i crashed at 300mph" hammond actually owns an old 70's charger?? he loves his yanks!

Clarkson i dont know why he hates them, but the odd car he really likes!

and captain slow, well i dont think he has an oppinion on anything!

have they done the US version of TopGear yet? i know they are planning one!

and are they not showing TopGear in the states on BBC World (or whatever its called) as they had to cut out a lot of the anti american comments before being able to show it in the US!

i still like it fro everything else lol

Si

most of the stuff they said about the car i agree on.

I saw the full episode as it air'd.

I still hate the GT500....Mainly because it has a soild Rear axel and is a Fat @ss PIG!!!!

The car IS big, and heavy. Probably the biggest single obstacle the car has between it and being a serious sports car but face it folks, the Mustang has never really been a road racer from the factory. Yeah, I know years ago, there were a good number of them that did rather well on road courses but the Mustang has never really been known as a sports car. It's a "pony-car", maybe even a "muscle-car" but not a "sports-car". Hell, that's what's saved it from certain extinction over the years. People kept buying it because it had a nice ride quality and didn't beat you up like so many others in it's class (can you say GM F-body cars).
The Mustang is a great middle of the road car that appeals to all sorts of people, and can EASILY be transformed into a more narrowly focused car if you really want.
Hell, if you put IRS on it, they'd bitch it was expensive and had too much wheel-hop at the drag strip. Anyone looking for something to pick on, will find something.

Im not sure about you guys, but i only go fast in a straight line and kick the back end out on my car on purpose..... and that Shelby looked like it was awesome at it! I dont think the 4000lb gt500 was built to run laps around a racetrack, i think it was built for one reason... more power than the 03-04 Cobras and thats what it did.

I hope they don't. Americans can't do a show like Top Gear. We can't.

We could never get away with bashing cars, the sponsors would not like it. We could not do Top Gear from a sponsoship standpoint alone. They don't have that issue in England due to them being onthe BBC, but do you REALLY think we could have a show that popular in the states without corporate backing? The presenters would have to lie about the cars and say they are great just to please the sponsors.

As American as I am I say keep it British, it's better that way. :)

Actually you're dead right... I didnt think about it like that before, but you're right. All the car shows over here are so driven by advertising that they are total crap. I watched some musclecar garage or something once, and I couldn't believe what a load of BS it was. They were like "this is a Steeda intake spacer good for 30 rwhp... lets install it". Retarded.

I really dont blame Top Gear though. They are looking for nimble sports cars. Big fat heavy GT500s are not that at all. They should get their facts straight though.
