So yesterday I went to Drift Nirvana-100 Drifters of December at Summit Point Raceway. Vaughn Gittin Jr. was there with his personal drift car which was a S13 and his Ford Mustang RTR.

One time I forgot to tie my canoe off to the dock and it was gone when I came back, is that what you are talking about?

Or are you talking about a short piece of metal round stock used with a hammer to dent or move metal parts?

Not sure what Mustang Magazines you are talking about either...I can count 1 story on drifting in the past 6 years in either 5.0 mag or MM&FF mag.

Drifting seems like a completely pointless sport to me. It exemeplifies the negative aspects of a rear wheel drive car though poor engineering and terrible design. 'Drifting' is counter productive for racing and minimum lap times and through better suspension designs and settings, we try to correct the problem.

For example, I've gone auto-crossing in my 88 before (when it had much less power) and spent a large portion of my lap sideways and trying to keep the rear end under control. It wasn't on purpose, it was because of a terrible rear suspension design (4 link, auto-bind setup), and a setup that was too stiff in the rear, with too much tire pressure. I was literally sliding sideways around entire corners of the course and even swinging the rear end back and forth through a slalom section which I entered carefully. Sure, it was great fun, but it was SLOW and a great example of poor suspension design and setup.

In my opinion, Drifting is a show rather than a sport. Who doesn't like a screamin v8 burning rubber. I heard someone say once it's like figure skating for guys. anyway, i can definitely respect those drivers. It's not easy to link those turns going sideways.

Drifting is an example of what happens when people cannot control a RWD car with a decent amount of power.

That said, I hang the ass end of my car out around a curve just for fun, sometimes. That's one reason why I like RWD cars.

But I pay for my own tires, and get more enjoyment out of coming out of a curve hard on the gas and *not* losing traction.

So no, I don't follow drifting. To me it's the glorification of the lack of skill. I'm not saying people who compete at drifting have no skill, it's just what they are good at is driving badly, IMHO. It's like a burnout contest - sure it's fun, but it's hardly where I'd spend time practicing or following the "stars."

Not to mention drifting gathers all the rice in the world in one place so we can laugh at them. If you ever want to see ugly body kits smashed repeatedly by talentless fools who think they are studs, watch drifting. That Mustang of Gittin's? The holes in the front bumper are called "racing holes," because race cars have them :/ They serve no purpose except he likes them because they "look cool."

That kind of stuff bugs me.

But it's cool for the OP to meet a famous person. I'm just not down with what he's famous for.

Its ironic, rear wheel drive car owners who can drift mostly prefer not to but owners of front wheel drive cars who cannot drift all wish they could.

I will acknowledge the skill it takes to be a real mad tyte "Drift King" but no way would I ever try to be one.
