Hey guys when I was trying to change the vacuum lines on my charcoal cannister the nipple on the purge solenoid that the hose goes over broke off, and doesnt look like it is repairable. It seems impossible to find a new one of these. On my daily driver escort the cannister looks identical to my mustang cannister, anyone know if the solenoids are interchangeable? I wonder if I could go to a JY and find one an older ford pickup or something.

You can still find new canister purge solenoids in various places. Rockauto lists a few brands. According to FordParts.com the same solenoid was used in most of the cars from 1984 to as late as 2003 but no trucks except for the Ranger, Explorer, & Aerostar. You can search for a Motorcraft CX-1158.

NAPA stocks the exact OEM purge solenoid and flow sensor by Eichlin. They even sport the Ford logo.

OH! It appears the 5.0 cars don't have this item. My bad.
This is a sensor located in-line between the purge solenoid and the vacuum source at the TB on the '96+ cars that verifies flow in the system. No flow = CEL. I only assumed the 5.0's had this item. Learn something new evey day.
