Does anyone around here speak Ford VIN? I'd like a breakdown of what my CII came from the factory with. My VIN is 8F03F100616. I think it was originally white with the green stripe kit. What I'm really curious to know is if it was a V8 car. It also has a 4-speed.

You can't get that specific info from the VIN. You need to look on your radiator support for the buck tag. Dearborn cars have it on top by the hood latch, San Jose cars on the bottom, by the valance. That gives you all the codes for what the car was equipped with, and if it's a real Cobra II.

Check out the mustangii.net site for all the decoders though.

If the driver's door is original, the door sticker will also tell you a fair bit if you decode it (that info. is also listed at the mustangii.net site)

Yes, the second F designates it as a V8 car.

Order a 999 report from the Ford Customer Assistance Center for the other info,(free) or the Marti report.

Thanks for the info. Contacted Ford today per Cobraman's guidance and someone from their research dept. is going to contact me in the next couple of days. Thanks again.

Where is the build sheet on a mustang II? I remember finding it, but I can't remember where. If you found it you could find out what options your car came with. Vaguely remember it being under the drivers seat held up by the seat springs??

Speaking of build sheets.......a guy from Ford Research called me today. They are getting a build sheet together for my '78. Said it would be 4-6 weeks.

I found the build sheet from my 78 cobra under the back seats

Also if you find the buck tag on the radiator support (likely place) it will say CB on it, which indicates it's a cobra

The Ford 999 report will confirm if its a Cobra but in my case did not indicate the stripe color, the Marti report does though, and provides better detail then the 999.
