I am slated to pick up my 06 sometime in December. It will be garaged, but my 3.5 year old son likes to "help" clean the cars---especially when no one is looking. He and his sister have taken a stick and an old paintbrush to my wifes car. They at least dip them into a mud puddle before "cleaning" the car.
What do you advise for the car? Again, it will be kept inside, it just needs to be protected against kids and adults walking by. I was going to go with the least expensive 05 car cover in mustangs unlimited.
Also, due to us not being able to rip out a wall in our garage until next summer, the 78 project car needs to camp out in the back yard for the winter. The passenger door doesn't have glass, so I need something snug for the car. I was going to go with a good cover and put a tarp on that side of the car.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Doc

Hey Doc,

I have a 7 year old that has taken the scooter, the bike and a few hotwheels to the car. I know the feeling.

I hope the car cover idea works. For my son, it would just be a big hidden tent to perform his atrosities on the car! LOL

Good Luck Doc

I would (and did) go to California Car Cover (http://www.calcarcover.com) and get what I think is their "stormweave". It's much thicker than most covers and will protect against minor bumps - most cover covers are too thin to offer any real protection from anything but dust when used inside.

The big disadvantage to this cover is that you will never, ever, be able to fold it up and put it back in the bag!

I agree with davisinla. Go to a reputable company and order the thickest cover they make. I've even seen some that were extra-thick to guard against bumps. Get one that is custom-fit for the Mustang, not a generic cover, and get one that has elastic around the bottom. Also get a cable lock. Between the elastic and cable lock, that should make it hard for him to pull up and "help" you with your car.

I'm assuming your project car does not have good paint at this point and your main objective is to keep the interior dry. Put an outdoor cover like Stormweave on the car, then put a snugly-fit tarp over the center section of the car where the window is, over the cover. That should keep the interior dry.

Car covers are not an area to go cheap on. A bad car cover can do more damage than good, by not letting moisture escape or by abrading your paint.
