Im back from about a 3-4 month break. Finally got moved to the st.louis area and now its time to get another stang since 4x4 and mud tires dont do so good on interstates. my only problem right now is what to buy. There are absolutely no cobra's that i can find in the area, 1 yellow mach1 that they want 22k for and are complete dicks when i go talk to them. they wouldnt even give me a price on trade in until they saw how much i was financed for. My other option is to buy a bone stock gt and try desperately to save up enough cash for a s/c and exhaust. So what do you guys think i should do. Im trying my hardest to wait around for something to show up, but my g/f and soon to be fiance wants me to settle for an all black cobalt ss because of the gas mileage and the fact that she knows i wont make it loud as what ive done before due to the fact its a 4banger. Someone please help me, I have to get rid of this truck before it breaks me. Thanks again. So should i get cobra, mach1, or gt then supercharge it?

A Cobra would probably be even more expensive to own and maintain than the truck.

I would suggest a nice Honda Accord until you are better established in your life. F'k Cobalts

the truck hasnt had any problems, its just the fact that it gets 12mpg on the interstate. In 2-3 months, my daily 180 mile roundtrip will end and i wont have to drive that far anymore. Right now I am tryin to refuse to give into a 4cylinder, but the impreza's are really catching my eye. Money isnt to much of an issue right now but id like to stay under 25k. They sold a used cobra here the other day for 30k and it had damn near 50k miles on it.

I see you are from IL, you should check out Chicago SVT - there are always a number of Cobras for sale on there by owners for good prices.

Heres a couple:

1. 03' Tenth Anni Torch Vert w/12k miles - $27k - LINK

2. 03' Redfire Coupe w/16k miles (Pulley, Exhaust, 4.10's) - $23k - LINK

3. 03' White Coupe w/21k miles (Ported blower, Pulley, Exhaust, Xca2, etc...) - No price listed, but he was going to trade it into the dealer for $20k, but the deal went sour on the vehicle he was purchasing. So I am sure you can pick this up for less than $25k. LINK

4. 03' White Couple w/53k miles - $21k - This one is just an ad someone posted of a local Cobra they seen for sale, with a number to contact the seller. LINK

Plenty of cars out there, just have to know where to look. Hope that helps...

Just re-read your post and seen that you moved to the St. Louis area, sorry! But I'd still make the drive for a good deal if you can land one.

How many miles does the Mach have & is it a 5 spd or auto. 22k is a bit high, but its a Mach & Mach's are the best...LOL. Also which yellow is it. I think they had 2 different shades of yellow available on the Mach's. I wouldnt buy the Mach if its an auto. & 30k is way too high for a Cobra, especially with 50k miles.

I've been debating the same thing... and what I have come to is that a nice 1999+ mustang is still the best value. You can probably get a nice 5 speed locally for $13 - $16K and save on insurance. Then your just a Mongoose kit ($4K) away from Cobra territory for a lot less money. Get a GT and start saving for mods once it's paid off! You will be ahead in the end.

Welcome to the Louis. A good dealership for finding whatever mustang, cobra, mach is Sunset Select in south county. I found my 40th ann. there. I think the sales manager is a mustang enthusiast. They always seem to have 1 or 2 machs, the occassional cobra and tons of 99-04 GTs. My vote would be for a 5 spd Mach1.

Thanks for the ads posted and the advice. If i can sell my truck for a decent amount, im going to go for a mach or a cobra. If i cant get as much as planned ill go for a gt and save up for a mongoose kit. I dont mind driving a good distance or even flying if it means im going to get a better deal than i would here. Mustang prices seem to be really high here compared to other places. it sucks

If you want a Cobra that bad, expand your search and be willing to drive. Prices on Cobras and GT's even are crazy around here. But its worth spending a few bucks and few hours to save thousands.

On the other hand....as ghey as Cobalt SS's are.....it wouldn't be a bad DD. At least you'd have some power and a cheaper car to drive. You might look like a ricer, but I'm sure it'd still be fun to drive.

And I just picked up on the "gf...soon to be fiance, bitching about a loud mustang".......perhaps you should be shopping for a new gf too. I'm sure my wife never loved my loud mustang....but she knew I did and knew better than to make me choose!

the gf will never make me chose between her and a vehicle. she doesnt care for the noise, but helped me pay for my duals on the truck for some reason :S. She just doesnt see the point in modifying a car. Ive already told her if she doesnt care for what i do the vehicles than she can leave. Im going to try to get a cobra as soon as my truck sells, but autotrader messed it up and didnt put it in the local magazine yet. surely some 16year old rich kid will like it and buy it. I dont think ill buy a cobalt ss, its cheaper for me to buy a gt than that, and it does look ricey with the wing and all.
