Hello everyone. Name is Brendan. I own a 1993 Ford fox body mustang GT and it's a 5 speed manual.
The problem I've been having and been going on for a year is the car like shuts off and quickly starts back up again. Like I watch the rpm gauge and it will drop 500 rpms quickly and bring it back up again. Like the car wants too shut off. I bought a new ignition switch for it last year that cured it for about a week and it does it again. So I read about a pip sensor in the distributor might be the problem so I got one from auto zone and advanced the timing too 13 degrees and it drove like a dream. Till I had to put it away for the winter. Now this year no problem starting up and drove fine. Till I had to run too the grocery store it showed its ugly face and completely died on me while driving. It sputtered and jerked and it died. Frustrated I try to start it and Nothing. All I smelt was gas while trying to start it. I had to push the car home... Frustrated at this point. When it died on me All I could smell was gas but no starting and I couldn't get any spark from the spark plugs. Until 5 minutes later of cooling off it started up... I'm scratching my head at this point so I decided to change everything ignition wise upgrading it. Here's what I got it in now
Msd Pro billet distributor and tfi module I got last week
Msd coil got it the same time as the distributor
New TPS sensor adjusted it too .97 volts but the weird thing was that I had it set at that and it still was idling very high at like 1600 Rpms so I dropped it down too .70 volts and it idles at normal now just a little under 1000 rpms. Weird
New IAC sensor. Just because if it's affecting the idle because the car still likes too shut off at idle. Didn't do anything btw
A new mass air flow sensor last year I put that in.
That's about it for that. I also checked the injectors the red wire for power and I'm getting 11.6 volts and I've read I'm supposed to be getting 12.. Could this be a problem?
Now that I've installed all of these the problem still existed. It doesnt shut off my car completely though mad the jerks and stuttering isn't as bad. But it's still doing it but a lot less violent.
One time I had to ask my pa for some help and I had revved the car too just a little under 2000 Rpms and I grabbed a test light and stuck in the red wire of the coil. And every time it would drop the Rpms the test light would flash on and off like how you flip a light switch on and off. I have no clue to what this means but Im pretty certain it's the ignition switch powering that coil. I've also installed a fuel pressure gauge and when the problem happened the pressure was above 30. Idk what to do anymore. I've wrote down 3 of these long messages to get help and I can't seem to get the help i need.
I'm desperate at this point guys. I really need some help. If you need a video of the car doing it I'll be more than happy to give it to you
So you guys can decipher what's going on. I'm going out on a limb
Here.. But I'm leaning towards a new EEC relay or getting a new A3M computer or if the wiring harness itself is ground out somewhere.
please guys I need help. If you can point me in the right direction to help me. Or point out something I missed please it would be very helpful. Thanks
