I need help!! Is my 68 worth saving?

I am on a budget but i have plenty of time and paitence! I planned on a 9in rear but i wanted to see how much power i could get out of that 289 when it comes to that stage. Im thinking supercharger. As far as looks go i love the styling of the gt/cs so i think i may borrow a few styling parts from that and my on special touch. As far as it not being worth restoring because of what you could buy one for in better shape its not about the end value of the car to me because i would never sell something i put so much heart and soul into. I want to build a car i can be proud of and know what went into restoring it myself. Something i can pass on to my son one day. Right now the only thing holding me back is parts. Or lack of. I will keep checking the marketplace and other vendors but if anybody has parts lying around for a 68 feel free to email me and i would be happy to purchace if money permits. (the navy pays me good but not that good)

Can anyone recomens a supplier for quality reproduction parts? I know year one and mustangs unlimited are pretty good. any others?

I buy everything from CJ Pony Parts. Sign up for the Herd membership. It's $35 a year and gives you 5% off of everything. If you sign up for their mailing list, you will get notified of their sales. I just ordered about $3000 in sheet metal when they were having a 15% off sale on sheet metal. It saved me $600 and shipping by truck was only $120 from PA to OH. With the Herd membership, I saved 20%. I have inspected the parts, and they are pretty much the same that everyone else sells. The door shells and quarters were Dynacorn, the floors and torque boxes were American Designers. Everything was as good of quality as you will get from any of the Mustang vendors.

Plus, the people at CJ's are really nice to deal with. Good luck in your project.

I purchaced some parts from them the other day on ebay. I ordered a pair of floor board supports and one was perfect and good quality just like year one and the like sell but the other was junk. It was a thin gauge steel with 2 tack welds to box in the end unlike the other that was folded properly and had the proper spot welds. My 17 month old son could weld better than that thing was. They sent me 2 different ones. I called them and they said they would see what they could do for me and give me a call. So far im not too impressed with them but well see if they fix the problem. I also ordered a rear valance so well see what thats like when it gets here.

I was considering using a spray on type bedliner material for the undercarriage to prevent rust once i do all the repairs. Has anyone tried this and were you happy with the results? I plan on driving this car. Not just once a month and then cleaning every crevice under the car.

Check out www.southernpolyurethanes.com I use all their epoxy primers, urethane primers, clears, spray in bedliner and they also have some colors in my shop. They have the best products, customer support and prices. Here is a picture of a 73 Mustang we did and I will be using on my coupe as well.

Other than the fact you probably paid too much for it (the seller should have paid you to haul it off, if he was going to junk it) I'd suggest converting the front suspension to a Mustang II, then planting either a big block or a DOHC Navigator motor in it. There's a company selling carbed intakes for the Nav motor on ebay, that would look wicked under the hood---- a dual four bbl DOHC 5.4 I bought one like yours a couple years back for $300 and that included a Toploader 4 speed, it was a small block coupe though. I parted it out and cut the rest up for scrap, I more than doubled my money on that deal. Selling the Toploader paid for the car, the rest was gravy. It was rusted so bad, stuff was falling out the trunk bottom while trailering it home.

After tearing into it some more and some good advice from Rusty i dont think it is as bad as i originally thought. The driver side frame rail is good and the passenger side i may be able to repair with just a new outer rail. And the fender apron parts ar cheap. So instead of looking at replacing the whole front end i may be able to get it done alot easier than i originally thought. I just need to get the motor out now so i can get started.

I was surprised when you sent me the pictures I was thinking it was a lot worse than it is. I think you can save the frame rails. They make a patch for the right front. Your car is nowhere near as bad as everybody thought and it will be a good project for you to learn on. Email me any time if you have questions.
