Has Ford made it a conspiracy to not let us wash the engine compartment in their vehicles???

I did my spring cleaning on the GT and Taurus this weekend. I have already had significant problems with the Taurus when washing the motor. Every time I have cleaned it, the plug wires break. It's gone thru 3 sets of plug wires while under warranty, now that it is out of warranty, it's on my dime. They are a factory/dealer only part and not cheap ($150 for a set at my wholesale price)

I am not "scrubbing" it or anything, just spraying it down gently with degreaser and light rinse w/ the hose on mist only. I know not to spray water at full power. It doesn't matter if the engine is cold or warm, I have running hot water outside too, doesn't help. The plugs went again... this time on both vehicles.

The GT can hardly keep an idle and the Taurus feels like it's about to snap a motor mount from the shaking.

Has anyone found a way around this ??? I thought it was just a Taurus problem. I was b.s. when the GT did it too. I tested all the plugs on both engines. The Taurus is running on 5 cylinders and the GT on 6 instead of 8.

Right now, I am hating FORD in a major way. Even w/my wholesale account I can't get indivdual plugs. I have to buy all 6 for the Taurus and all 8 for the GT.

So, is this a conspiracy????

I power-washed my former GTs engine 5 times since the year 2000 w/ never anything more than some minor belt squeak.

Actually what year's your car Awwyea? Cuz mine doesn't have spark plug wires. I don't know if the year 1999 was when Ford did away w/ those but maybe that's part of the problem. I know all the 5.0s had them. So in part of 1995 @ least, they were still using them. But I can't say for sure from 1996-1998. If it IS a 1999 that you have (according to your sig). You don't have spark plug wires. Ford's ripping you off if they are saying they are replacing them & charging you for them.

It's alive !

The 99 GT and the 00 Taurus have coil on plug (C.O.P.) "plug wires" for lack of a better term. They leak like a battleship and Ford knows it. The individual C.O.P.'s are $150 each. (I was given a wrong price last night when I ordered them - the parts guy thought I needed a traditional wire set)

Anyways...I had to replace 2 of the C.O.P's on the GT. I haven't gotten to the Taurus yet. At this rate, I think I may never wash the frickn' motor again. It wasn't a bad thing under warranty, but out of pocket sucks. I can't stand a dirty car, but it isn't worth $300 to replace these things again.

On a good note, the 4.10's will be delivered tomorrow!!!!!!!
