I need help

ok so i need to get a new distributor but i dont witch one. they have 2 one with a steel gear and the other with a cast iron gear. so how do i check witch one i need ?

Do you have a roller cam (steel gear) or a flat tappet cam (cast iron gear)?
Roller cams were standard on engines made in 85 and later and used a steel gear.
Flat tappet cams were standard in engines made in 84 and earlier and used an iron gear.

Some aftermarket cams can be different from the original roller or flat tappet that came installed from the factory.
