I need opinions!!!

Well, I posted my Mach 1 on Craigslist in hopes to sell it. I have no money to restore it. I have no job now, I have to help pay bills with the small amount of money I have. And The Mach isn't a priority. It's a shame to have to do this but I must. I need something that will run. I need ideas of what car to buy with $4k. I have it up for $5500, but the lowest ill go is 4. after all, i did buy it for 2500 and have 1000 in parts. so ill be getting a $500 profit. So guys and gals, please give me ideas on what to buy with $4k. I want something different. Not just a 5.0. I was thinking of buying an svo. A capri would be real nice also. But yeah, gimme some ideas

With no job, any toy car isn't a priority. 2000 Carolla or Camry to get you to your next job would be smarter.

I agre 150%, don't buy a toy car, or a car your going to tinker with. Buy something smart, reliable, good on gas etc... Not having money, and having a Mustang is a bad idea. In just the money savings in gas, might put food on your table for a couple weeks.

Now is the time to think smart.

Theres nothing wrong with a foreign car. I had an Audi for some time, and my GF has a Mercedes now. Outclass the American offerings.

Actually the only issues they have are the air suspension and the blend door breaks. The blend door is a cheap fix (just need JBWeld) but it is time consuming. The air suspension is also an easy fix. Just get the whole coil over setup for under $500.
The rest of the stuff (mechanical) is cheap off the shelf stuff. Its all pretty easy to work on too. That was a deciding factor in keeping mine instead of buying a new car for DD duty.

I have put over 20K on mine in the last 9 months and besides tires and the stuff that the previous owner improperly fixed are the only repairs the car has needed. Thing will stomp a Charger or Stang GT and will be dead silent in ultimate comfort while doing it AND giving you over 22 mpg while doing it

Mine was only $3200 because it needs a fender painted. They can be found for $3000-$4000 all day long in great shape

you need a eco-box, civic,corrolla,focus etc. they are all cheap and usually in good condition for the 3500-4k range. if your good you can find a 5k svt focus get 25+mpg and still have pep

tbird or cougar of the same vintage would do nicely too, same cars without the fancy air suspension (and non-cobra mustang motors, so even cheaper to repair or hop up)

Only thing more expensive on a 4V is the cams since there are twice as many. Everything else is pretty much the same

you just bought a four banger notch, dont go looking for cars if you sell this one. I realize that you are only what, 16? so it's kind of hard to make a rational intelligent decision with the impatience of youth, and 500 profit isnt a whole hell of a lot. get a paper route or heaven forbid a job at mcdonalds. if times are tough beggars cant be choosers. keep the notch as a dd, sell the mach if you feel you must, but since you arent paying on it. at least I hope you are not. let it sit. who knows, your situation could improve soon.
as for foreign cars being better than their domestic counterparts I whole heartedly agree, too bad parts cost are through the roof....

Theres a mistake I make every time- I just assume everyone has a house to pay for, and kids to feed, like me. I didn't know this is a young guy, with absolutely no responsabilities. Still, get a good car, learn how to work, then get the toys is smarter. Old Toyota's and Honda's are everywhere, there's a reason for that. I'm on my second early 90's Toyota, my $1200 94 Carolla died with 269K on the clock, and the air blowing icy cold that day. This $2500 93 Camry has 190K and counting, cold air, hasn't broke in the year I've had it. When they disappoint me, I'll switch, but I can't tell you the last time I saw an early 90's Taurus that wasn't in a junkyard. And I have a running pony tattoo'd to my arm. My money has to do more, and rice runs forever. Toys can wait.

i don't see the logic in what the OP is saying, right now you have two cars... a 4 banger notch DD and a project on the backburner that you aren't paying any money into... and you want to sell the project and buy another car? so you'll be worse off than you started? we all know when you buy a used car you don't just hop in it carefree and drive off... tune up, brakes, fluids, windshield wipers, a clutch, a tranny, a motor, some gaskets, SOMETHING will need to be fixed... if you're desperate for money sell off the project and drive the 89 coupe while you look for a job and better your financial situation

Drive the notch and if you MUST sell the Mach, bank the money to cover you until you get a job. Do not buy another car. I learned that the hard way. Nearly 30 cars later, I am still not sure I've learned.

I have an old reliable 90 Corolla, 285000 miles and still kickin 38mpg, in 12 years I've had it put a clutch in ($125) brakes ($30 a couple times) and tires (4 mounted and balanced $99) 2x
Rest of the money went into the stang. It only lasted 3 months as a daily driver

I dd'd a four banger and 5.0 stang for the last three years and I couldnt tell you how many times I was left on the side of the road due to an aging/poorly designed electrical system. hit up the four banger forum here or FEP and see what everyone there says about an SVO. if you manage to find one that is in "decent" running shape it's just this side of a miracle. they are far from being considered a good dd and are temperamental at best. stick with what you got.

the thing is, i dont want a DD (I have one). And def. no foreign cars. ESPECIALLY NOT A HONDA. I want a weekend car. Make sure that it runs and that it looks at least decent. And Im also considering a 5.0 now. look what I have in mind so far.
