MAn i hope you've got gears and sticky tires or your screwed. If it's not on the track it'll be too close to call, but he should run about 1/10- 2/10 second quicker.. hope he cant drive.

Full magnaflow exhaust or just a catback? If its just a cat back....that does next to jack for a stock GT. You would be lucky to CREEP on a 100% stock GT with just a catback.

Get yourself some gears (3.73s would probably be best), and an O/R X pipe (magnaflow makes a good one, as does VRS). That should help quite a bit and give you the edge. Just dont get jumpy at the line. And if you have the money, buy some MT drag radials that will fit whatever rim your running...if your going from a stop. If your going from a roll, then screw the tires and make sure to run 30PSI rear and 35PSI front at least. May also want to toss in a K&N filter....this one is going to be close.

I hope you can drive!

Please don't bet $500 on it, and please take it to the track.

If he can drive and you can't, you are toast. 350Z's are quick cars and if you can both drive you MAY be able to edge him out, but a stock geared not modded GT is nothing fast.

Well, im pretty sure you can beat him with Drag radials though. You have a better chance of winning if you do this legally. Your car with drag radials will def. beat that Z. I've run faster times than a G35 at my track, so a Z shouldn't be too hard. You've got 300lbs TQ.. thats quite an advantage off the line over the Z if you can keep from spinning. Drag radials, i say you have a definite win if you can drive. It'll be close, but should still be a win.

1, do it on a track. 2, be a man and do it on a road course.

First of all, I wouldnt start betting money when you have a close to stock car. If you have money to put in the race, tires(DRs) or nitrous will be your best bet. Both should give you a good advantage off the line. As far as I am concerned, people only bet money on a race if a. they are stupid or b. they have a good reason that they will win. I wouldnt be surprised at all is he is hustling you.

As they sit now w/ the mods listed, I call drivers race.

I agree it is a driver's race, depending on the level of mods...and yeah, take it to a track.

A stock Mustang GT is a slow car.

Hate to be blunt, but even running low 14's it is. I've gotten on it on the highway and been amazed at some cars able to keep up with me. Just the other day I had a little Nissan Sentra SE-R hang with me from 40MPH all the way to 80MPH. When i let off, he came up and passed me. I think it was stock too.

Sad thing is unless you have a 4V under the hood, or some serious mods on a 2V...it's better to keep quiet.

Only thing going from you is the torque, and your advantage is from a dead stop. But thinking back at all my street encounters, 90% of them have been from a roll of at least 40MPH...on a closed course of course

saaay whaaa? I can honestly say, i havent seen a single car that could keep up with me. On more than one occasion, i've had guys come up behind me crazy fast, and i downsift and floor it rigt wen they get up on my tail and they cant keep up.
This one time, these two imports were racing, and i saw them coming towards me, again, i downshfted, and floored it just as they were approachint the rear, and i had a passenger. We were laughing the whole way home.

Call me weird, but i am very happy with the way a stock mustang performs.

I can tell you from experience that the SE-R couldnt have been stock. no way in hell. unless you were in 4th gear when you started he never would have stood a chance. I have beaten 2 supercharged coopers when i was still n/a with just a 75mm throtle bodie and CAI. granted i barely pulled on them but i still won. and coopers are a hell of a lot faster then SE-R's.

To the OP. I have beaten 3 zs and 2 g35 coupes but barely. if you can drive you've got a chance but its a slim one. I wouldnt bet on it unless you get gears or some other mods. I would get some gears, tune, a drop in K&N, and a 70 mm throtle bodie and plenum.

I've raced my friends 350z. When we raced, he had a cold air intake and exhaust. My mustang was stock other than a 4.10 gear at a dead stop he pulled half a car length on me, when I stopped spinning, I came right back and passed. From a 40 mph roll off, I pulled about 3 car lengths on him. Get you a gear and some tires that hook up and you may be fine.

Your best bet is to do the following:

(1) get some sticky tires on the back

(2) practice so that you can (a) cut a near-zero tree reaction time and (b) get a good launch without going up in smoke or bogging.

Most reasonably close races are won at the starting line, not at the finish line. I see slower cars win every weekend due to better driving... Watched a GT500 run upper 13's to low 14's a couple of weeks ago. Driver needed _serious_ help. watched two identical Z06's run, one 14.0 other 12.0. race was over at the 60' mark, the rest was just stirring the gearbox and keeping it straight down the track.

Note that you need to practice at the track, where you get good feedback on reaction time and how well you launch (60' time). Just going by "feel" won't cut it... If you don't have enough experience, spraying or anything likely will only hurt as you go up in smoke out of the hole.

When I was stock I had no trouble beating them...I dont get it...I mean, the odd one would creep up, but...nothing too close...mind you, I've been racing for a long time...maybe it is up to the driver...

Please take it to the track though...
