I just bought a 92 5.0 lx. The guy said he has gt-40P heads, e303 cam, 1.6 roller rockers. My first question is how can i tell if these are really gt-40p heads?

Second question the car doesn't want to start, when it does it backfires like crazy. I checked the timing and its a 10 btdc. Does it need to be different with these heads and cam. What about the firing order is that still the stock order? Also the exhaust near the mufflers got red hot i have never seen that before> it got so hot i thought the car was going to catch fire. Please any comments on these problems would be great thank you

The GT-40P heads have a slightly different plug location.. .but the only real way to tell while on the motor is to look at the casting numbers.

The car came with E7TE heads. If it has GT-40P's it will be marked as such.

The GT40P heads require a different header design than the GT-40s so if you have stock headers, they are not GT-40P's.

The P heads are easy to identify. There will be 4 verticle bars on the front of the heads and it will say GTP down by the head bolts on the extreme right hand side of each head.

The timing and firing order is the same as the stock heads.

It sounds like the car is severely leaning out. Pull the codes out of the computer first.
