Here is my question in the Sound & Shine forum. I'm needing info on changing the head unit in my '97 Cobra. Any input is appreciated.

I also am thinking about changing out the stock unit. The only problem I see is controlling all eight speakers. I tried to open your links, but the took forever. I guess we have three amps, one for the tweets, and two for the 6x8's. This doesn't sound like what your wanting to do, but to do it right, you need to be able to deliver two different signals, one for the mids, and one for the highs. Most decks have front, rear and a sub preout. Unfortunately I think it would be expensive to do it right, which is why I haven't done it yet. A cheap alternative might be finding a wrecked cobra or mustang with the stero still intact, and just getting the cd player part. there might be one in the classifieds? or ebay? That probably didn't help much, but if I did it, I know it would end up costing quite a bit . Let me know when you get ready to update your other website, I have some new parts, and pics, that definately make the cobra look better. There are some at the link in my signature, and I have some more on my computer. Good luck. chris

All you really need is the aftermarket adapter made for doing this. I think LRS sells this for around $45. You can check out their website at www.50resto.com. Other than that you will need new amps and speakers and rerun new speaker wire.

I went to a local stereo shop and bought a metra tech wiring harness for 12 bucks it is made for changing head units in a ford car with a premium sound system. My cobra is a 97 so i used the 12 dollar one. if you have a 94-95 i think you have to use a different one that costs around $20. If you don't have a shop that sells the metra tech harness just do a google.com search for metra tech, they have a 1-800 number and they will send you the one you need.
